BREAKFAST

FRIENDLY’S

254 Plainfield Road, WestLebanon

(603) 298-7855

This isn’t our idea. One of our friends at KUA told us "Trust me, don't have breakfast anywhere except Friendly's" OK, we'll take your word for it.

Directions: Head northwest from Main Street and go about 7 miles (Main Street becomes Brook Road, Willow Brook Road, and finally True’s Brook Road during this 7 mile stretch). When you get to Rte. 12A turn left and you’ll see Friendly’s on the right side of the road. 10 minute drive.

LUNCH, PIZZA, PASTA

LUI LUI

(Pronounced ‘Louie Louie’)

8 Glen Road, WestLebanon

(603) 298-7070

Website:

A KUA favorite, and with good reason. Authentic Italian cooking with awesome aromas that greet you at the door.

Directions: Head northwest from Main Street and go about 7 miles (Main Street becomes Brook Road, Willow Brook Road, and finally True’s Brook Road during this 7 mile stretch). When you get to Rte. 12A (also called North Plainfield Road) turn (bear) right and go 1.9 miles (North Plainfield Road becomes South Main Street during this stretch). Turn right onto Glen Road and follow to Lui Lui. 15 minute drive.

PUBS & RESTAURANTS

You can not go wrong with any of the three nicely upscale establishments listed below. Consistent, friendly, and great in the winter. However, please remember that Hanover is a college town (Dartmouth) so dinner reservations are generally imperative on weekends, and should be made days in advance.

MOLLY’S RESTAURANT & PUB

43 South Main Street, Hanover (603) 643-2570

Website:

We love their finger foods, thin crust pizza (pizza in an Irish place?), and especially their daily specials, which are always awesome. Molly's does a lot of little things just right, and it keeps bringing us back over and over. We think you'll love this place for its food, comfort, and old style charm.

Directions: Go back to Rte. 120 and turn left to head north on Rte. 120. Follow Rte. 120 (aka Meriden Road at times) 7½ miles into Lebanon. In Lebanon bear right onto Messenger Street and go 2/10 of a mile. Bear right onto School Street and go 3/10 of a mile. Turn right onto Rte. 4 (you’re now going ¾ of the way around the town square). At the end of the block bear left, and go to end of that block (1/10 of a mile or less) and bear left again. Go to end of block, keeping right, and turn right onto Hanover Street (you’ve now passed the town square…congratulations!). Hanover Street is also called Rte. 120. From the instant you leave the square, go EXACTLY 4.2 miles on Rte. 120. Now in Hanover (at the 4.2 mile mark) bear left onto Lebanon Street and go 1.3 miles. Turn right onto South Main Street and Molly’s will be immediately on your right. 18/20 minute drive.

11 South Main Street, Hanover (603) 643-4075

Website:

We’d drive all the way to Hanover just to visit Murphy’s! Murphy’s on the Green has won more awards than they can count, and if you go inside you’ll find out why. Friendly as can be, with a warm and pleasant atmosphere, Murphy's also offers great food that is always fresh. Offering some of the best appetizers this writer has ever enjoyed in an Irish place, one can be tempted to munch only on them while enjoying your favorite pint, and forego dinner all together. But if they have their Lobster Ravioli that day, get it, it’s awesome. The food here is superb. Reservations for 6 or more only.

Directions: See directions for Molly’s, above. Same street, same block, same side. Murphy’s is at the end of the block.

THE DANIELWEBSTERROOM

(Located in The Hanover Inn)

2 South Main Street, Hanover

(603) 643-4300

Website:

The Daniel Webster is a good tavern, and is frequented by an older crowd (and older than this writer is really old). They have a limited selection of appetizers (but what they do offer are excellent), but their dinner menu is very good (but is on the pricey side).

The Hanover Inn also has Zin's Wine Bistro, which has become a college favorite. We prefer the Daniel Webster (if you can't get into Molly's or Murphy's) if, for no other reason, than we prefer not to relax with a bunch of just-learning-to-drink college kids.

Directions: The directions going to the Daniel Webster are the same as going to Molly’s or Murphy’s. The Hanover Inn is 2 blocks up South Main Street on your left. 18/20 minute drive.
