Of Mice and Men American Dream board

The American Dream, as you have discussed in class, is the freedom that includes a promise of the possibility of prosperity and success. In the definition of the American Dream by James Truslow Adams in 1931, "life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement" regardless of social class or circumstances of birth.

Your Assignment

A dream board is a way of displaying and reminding yourself of your goals. For example, if someone has a goal of becoming a professional basketball player, their dream board may include pictures of a basketball, the Staples Center, a jersey from a professional team, or a check for millions of dollars.

Think about George Milton and Lennie Small, the main characters in the novel Of Mice and Men. As American migrant workers, what is their American Dream?

Choose one character, either George Milton OR Lennie Small, and create a dream board based on that character’s American Dream. Use what you have learned about the men in the first two chapters, as well as your dialectical journal to create this dream board.

Your dream board must include:

-A picture of either George OR Lennie

-At least FOUR dreams or goals your chosen character has

-A description of each goal and how it is related to your chosen character

You may choose pictures from the internet or a magazine, or you may draw a picture.

Grading

Each project must be neat and organized. Effort must be visible. The grade is based on creativity, neatness, accuracy, and effort. (There is a big difference between something you jot down in a few minutes and something you put time into). This assignment is worth 100 points.

This assignment is due Monday, November 28, 2011.
