President’s Message

Hello fellow APICS Members and Enthusiasts,

The leaves are turning and autumn is in full gear now. And while the days are getting shorter, our chapter’s PDM’s are just getting revved up! We have a special evening lined up for you in November as we hostFoothills Top Management Nightwith John Cunningham with Mazda North American Operations from Irvine, California. You may be asking “What is Top Management Night?” Well, it’s an event we host each year to highlight and promote the APICS organization’s values, benefits, and offerings to managers and executive level personnel at local employers We encourage you to invite your boss and others in your organization who are change agents who embrace opportunities for career development and recognize its value. This is your time to shine!

As I mentioned last month, I attended the 2015 APICS Conference in Las Vegas October 5-7 along with Mike Carpenter, CPIM, CPSM and Kathy Robb-Williams, CPIM. What an experience! I have been a member of APICS for over 15 years, but this was the first time I attended the national conference. The educational sessions covered a variety of tracks including Collaboration and S&OP, Operations Management, SC Analytics, SC Leadership, SC Strategy, Distribution and Logistics and SCOR. Fifty (50) exhibitors were on hand at APICS EXPO to demonstrate the latest technologies and to help you discover new solutions to business needs. I also had the opportunity to tour Zappos, the online retail giant who moved their headquarters to Las Vegas in 2013. This is definitely a must see conference. I hope you can make it next year in Washington, DC in September 2016. See the pictures posted in the newsletter.

We hope you can join us on November 12thfor Top Management Night………………and bring a guest (or two)!

Sincerely,

Debbie Boyle, CSCP

Foothills President

November Program

John will talk about getting managers to step back and look that their operations again to make sure they are aligned and efficient to deliver the right level of service at the best possible cost.

John Cunningham has 28 years of sales and service experience in the automotive industry. For the past 5 years as Parts Logistic Manager, John expanded the Mazda parts warehouse network to get closer to the customer resulting in significantly reduced Order-to-Delivery times to dealers and transportation expense for Mazda. Most recently, the focus has been on lean warehouse practices to improve operating efficiencies and the consolidation freight lanes. These efforts have resulted in significant reductions in annual expenses in outbound transportation and warehouse labor.

Prior to Parts Logistics he was Mazda’s National Distribution Manager where he adjusted the allocation system to account for dealer availability and implementation of dealer direct ordering. As Vehicle Logistics Manager he aligned finished goods routing to take out unnecessary inland port processing and excess transportation.

John received his MBA from the University of Notre Dame with concentrations in Marketing & Finance. Outside of work, he is a runner and rock climber, with a passion for the outdoors and his new found hobby of rebuilding his 1966 Ford Mustang.

Membership News

Last meeting was an exciting one, with the student members presenting. It was wonderful to get to know more about what the students are doing in preparation for real world challenges.

Our membership has grown to 174 members, with 71 of them as Student Associates. It’s great to see so many young adults interested in the APICS organization.

The November 12th meeting is also TOP MANAGEMENT NIGHT!! Invite your managers and other organizational leaders for a night of networking and reflection on important supply chain issues from a senior management perspective.

This is an excellent opportunity for the Student Associates!

I look forward to meeting you at the November 12th meeting.

Sincerely,

Lori Bishop, CPIM, C.P.M.
