PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE: Pam and I have been traveling this summer, going to rodeos. Early June was the Colville rodeo, then back the next week for cowboy poetry, cowboy band and dancing. July 4 was Schweitzer for craft sales and free rides to the mountain top and back, of course. July 9 to Spencer ID to dig for opals, then to Philipsburg MT and panned for sapphires. August 11 we went to Chatagua in Chewelaw WA. August 15 to the Omak Stampede and watched the thunder and lightning and rain before the rodeo but the sun came out and it was beautiful. September 5 we went to Ellensburg rodeo. In between all this, I flew to Columbus GA, my brother was sick. He passed on July 17 and his memorial was August 31. Phoebie

SECOND ANNUAL PICNIC: was held on Thursday, July 23. The turnout was small but everyone that came had a good time, good food, good visiting with friends. And this year the weather was really good.

SPOTLIGHT ON: Bert Jones and Joann Manley Jones. “We had a short vacation to Ketchikan, AK. I lived there for 15 years while a helicopter pilot for Temsco Helicopters. We went to Prince of Wales Island for 3 days. I flew all over the island but had never driven it. We had a good time and there was no smoke! JoAnn had never been to that side of Alaska. We visited with friends I knew when I lived in the city. Then back home to smoke!”

DR. GEORGE RICE: There is an upcoming conference put on by S.A.F.E. “Boomers and Beyond”, a two day conference, Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3. We are participating and need more volunteers as we are covering two days. It is from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day. It will be at the Spokane Convention Center in downtown Spokane. It should be pretty exciting for us and I will get a table for AARP for the two days. I also will give a workshop presentation on drugs and how to keep from paying higher prices than you need. There will also be some new research that AARP is conducting. The keynote address, Aging Gracefully-Living Your Best Life and Life Lessons will be given by Linda Evans, world renowned actress, at a luncheon on Saturday, 10/3. Resources for Boomers include retirement living, local senior services, transitioning, and enjoying the benefits of aging in Spokane, plus the exhibit floor and door prizes.
