OCI Announces First Industry Compliance to DO-262A for
FANS-Over-Iridium Installation
Loveland, Colorado – (September 6th2013) – OCI (Overlook Consulting, Inc.) announced today that the FAA has issuedthe first STC of an Iridium avionics platform by the FAA against the requirements in DO-262A on a business aviation aircraft. DO-262A identifies guidelines for design approval of aircraft data link communication systems supporting Air Traffic Services (ATS).The STC was issued to Chicago Jet Group LLC for the installation ofICG’s NxtLink SeriesICS-220A and Universal Avionics UniLink UL-801 Communications Management Unit in the Dassault Aviation Mystere-Falcon 50 aircraft. The STC provides equipment approval for the FANS1/A suite of equipment in support of reduced separations and preferred flight routes over the Atlantic, Pacific, Canadian, and other FANS airspace throughout the world.
Overlook Consulting, Inc. provided the technical test support to complete the end-to-end FANS 1/A testing and performance validation to ensure compliance to DO-306. Overlook Consulting, Inc. provided the compliance matrix for the DO-262A “Iridium Normative Appendix” together with the data from Iridium and ICG’s NxtLink ICS-220A test program to demonstrate compliance to AC 20-140A.
The FANS 1/A installation include Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS), Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Contract (ADS-C) messaging, and flight deck voice communications via conventional aircraft audio systems and call control, utilizing ARINC 739a compliant Multifunction Control Display Units (MCDUs). The NxtLink ICS-220A is a three-transceiver device which combines dual L-Band Transceivers to provide two channels of global voice with a Short Burst Data (SBD) modem dedicated to data link services.
