YOUR HELP NEEDED You have probably heard and/or read about a large developer named Integral Communities attempting to purchase 176 acres in South Morro Hills and convert it from farmland to high density housing. If this plan is carried out, the rest of South Morro Hills (another approx. 3200 acres) will probably be next, in a domino effect. The developer is not planning to cover the cost of infrastructure to support all those new homes (water supply, sewers, a waste treatment facility, another fire station, another bridge to handle all the new traffic, etc.) and wants Oceanside taxpayers to pay for that infrastructure. This development has been opposed by the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce, the Oceanside Planning Commission, and The Sierra Club, among others. Now crops are grown there ALL YEAR.

Developing any or all land in South Morro Hills would require a change of zoning for farmland that would be converted to high density housing. Under current law, the Oceanside City Council can change the zoning by a majority vote (3 people). A group called Save Open Space and Agricultural Resources (SOAR) is organizing an initiative to change current law to require a vote of the citizens (YOU) for approval of any change of zoning of land currently zoned for open space or agricultural use. The initiative will require thousands of signatures of registered Oceanside voters. That is where you come in. They need volunteers to sit at grocery stores and elsewheretocollect those signatures. If you are a registered voter in Oceansideand willing to help collect signatures, please call Bob Markley at (760) 435-1126 or send an e-mail message to .
