POSITION SUMMARY:
The Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for the creation and maintenance of all Health & Safety programs for St. Joseph’s Home Care. The OHS Coordinator will promote a safe and healthy working environment, train staff on health & safety programs and coordinate early and safe return to work (RTW).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Actively works to promote a healthy and safe work environment for SJHC employees. Facilitates safe and early return to work.
  2. Assists and participates in the coordination of the overall corporate health and safety program.
  3. Case management of all WSIB claims. Processes new claims, assists managers with accident investigations in the case of WSIB, monitors employee status and assists with the implementation of return to work initiatives. Liaises with WSIB and Manulife representatives, employees and their supervisors/managers.
  4. Collects and monitors compliance with monthly safety inspections of all sites.
  5. Receives and reviews all staff incident reports to determine necessity of filing a claim with WSIB.Ensures compliance with existing policies and procedures and/or the need for new procedures and training. Works to avoid additional costs to the organization.
  6. Generates all Health and Safety and WSIB reports, monitoring and tracing relevant data received from all SJHC site locations in order to assess and address trends, ie. the development of additional training.
  7. Maintains and updates all records, statistics and documentation related to Health & Safety and WSIB, including days of absenteeism and Lost Time Days for WSIB, providing the relevant data for the Balanced Scorecards.
  8. Assists and participates in the coordination of the overall corporate Health and Safety program while complying with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all other relevant legislation.
  9. Act as SJHC representative for the Wellington Safety Group. Implements requirements of the group, completes monthly injury reports, conducts yearly audit and responsible for managing the continual improvement plan.
  10. Participates as a certified member of the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee.
  11. Works cooperatively with employees and supervisors to remove barriers preventing employees from returning to work.
  12. Conducts safety training and annual reviews/fit tests for employees in order to provide a safe and healthy working environment for all staff and comply with legislation.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
  1. College Diploma/Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
  2. Two years related work experience.Experience in disability management/return to work is an asset.
  3. CHRP/CHRL designation is an asset.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to Organizational values of Dignity, Respect, Service, Justice, Responsibility and Enquiry.
  5. Strong knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and associated regulations
  6. Must possess strong organizational and planning abilities.
  7. Strong communication skills both verbal and written with a proven ability to pay close attention to detail.
  8. Proven ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude.
  9. Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to use discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality
