c. Upcoming Events
Had the most attendance from parents at the last “Volunteer Tee.”
Headstart families- Free trip to see Sesame Street Live
The bus will come to the school and pick up families at the school
d. OPE Updates
1. Dual Language program in Kindergarten - Ms.
Burgos and Ms. Rhodes
2. Human Life and Sexuality- More information than
the past, more scripted, teachers going to a
training and will train other teachers on their return
Changes to the program- e.g. boys and girls will be
in the same room for the training
- Interims go home on Thursday - Parents encouraged to schedule conferences with teachers
- Four temporary cafeteria employees are needed to assist with lunch - apply on the Broward County website
- Mentioned all newly hired faculty members
- Ms. Gilligan is in charge of the Student Council, which bridges staff and students together
- This year is Broward 100, Broward schools have been in service for 100 years
- In search of a parent to represent Staff Committee (meets once a month; go to outside meetings, voice concerns and return with new information to the SAC meeting)
- In search of a parent to be an IZONE representative - will go to the zone meeting to discuss “boundaries” (zone schools for children)
- Pat Mora - the author visited the dual language classes and distributed books to students
- Follow OPE on Twitter (garciaprincipal) or on Instagram (garcia_eagles)
- Book Fair will be on October 12-16 - In search
of parent volunteers
- Next Wednesday is Dolphins Training at OPE
- Students will participate in a one hour duration
of sports.
- Parents can volunteer, need to be at the school
at 8:30.
- Quorum per staff - more than 51% of parents at the meeting.
- 8 Parents voted in SAC to become members
- If parents have activities that would like to see done in the school - fill out a form and bring it to the next meeting
- Title One Report - Dawn McMahon
- Federally funded program - can assist with staff, offers parents and teachers training, funds staff developments,
- This is a thinking map school - trains minds of a different way of thinking and categorizing information - there is a total of 8 maps altogether
- In search of a Title I Liaison - parents can attend training sessions as a representation of the school (will provide free babysitting)
- School Needs
Science - Boot Camp Program for fifth Graders - Nominated, Second, and Approved
- LLI Language Acquisition Program - Used with younger kids who are struggling readers, already has 1 kit and need 2 more - Nominated, Second, and Approved
