NYSSMA SOLO FESTIVAL
2016
This year’s Solo and Small Ensemble Festival will be held on Friday and Saturday April 29th and 30that Putnam Valley H. S. You are responsible for providing your own transportation to and from the festival and it is suggested that you arrive at least 25 minutes before your assigned time.
Levels 1 and 2 soloists: You will be able to pick any three scales you wish to perform.
Levels 3 and 4 soloists: You will have to prepare 7 scales, from which the judge will choose 3 for you to perform.
Levels 5 and 6 soloists: You will have to prepare all 15 scales, from which the judge will choose 3 for you to perform.
ALL SCALES MUST BE PERFORMED FROM MEMORY!
Any student who wishes to perform at NYSSMA will be responsible for purchasing their own music and an appropriate judges’ copy. NO PHOTOCOPIES WILL BE ALLOWED INTO THE JUDGING ROOM! Your band director will help you find an appropriate solo and give you information about how to purchase the music. Most pieces of music come with a solo sheet and a piano part. The judge can look on the piano part so in that case you do not need to purchase two copies. If you are playing a solo from a book that does not have a piano part, you will need to order two books.
If your child is performing a percussion solo, they must bring their own snare drum, xylophone, or drum set. No percussion instrument will be provided. Piano solos will not be at this site. Please see Mr. Weinrich for a different form for a piano solo.
CONGRATULATIONS! Preparing a solo and performing it at the NYSSMA Festival is an accomplishment to be proud of! Please bring back the attached form and payment by MondayFeb. 1st.
