The Special Education Needs Co-ordinator is Dawn Netley (Manager), she can advise you the best way forward if you have a concern about my child.

What will happen if the setting has concerns about your child?

The setting will speak to you to discuss the matter and decide on the next step. (See our policy on special needs)

What kind of help can the setting offer?

The setting works closely with all the professionals dealing with your child and has regular meetings with them to plan the next stage of help that your child may require. The setting can speak to the relevant professionals toget the necessary assistance that your child may require and seek advice on strategies that can help your child.

What kind of professionals does the setting have contact with?

How will I know if my child is progressing at the setting?

We use a daily contact book which can be used as a 2 way communication tool. We record their progress in the Early Years Foundation stage and parents can see their records of this at any time. We have an individual learning plan which is compiled with the help of the parent to enable us to work together for the best possible outcome for your child.

If extra equipment etc. is required how will the setting access this equipment?

The setting may be able to apply for funding. We have a wide range of resources and access to borrow equipment. We fundraise for equipment regularly.

How else can we support your child?

·  We use Somerset Total Communication; many of our staff has completed STC courses.

·  Small Group Work

·  We are an inclusive practice & all children are given the same opportunities (some maybe delivered differently.)

·  Forest School is run several times a week. We have very good results with children who find it hard to sit down inside etc. They have access to our own woods where they can learn & explore in the natural environment.

What happens when they move to school?

We work very closely with their future teacher to develop an education plan etc. We invite the teacher into the setting to observe your child etc.
