8:30-9:20 Overview of the Importance of Calibration

Randy Zondag, OSU Extension Educator, will explain why we calibrate, common problems with sprayers that calibration and/or a pre-spray inspection can reveal, and steps to take in the pre-spray inspection.

9:20-9:30 Break

9:30-11:30 Airblast Sprayer Calibration

Randy will guide us through the calibration of 2 different airblast sprayer models.

11:30-12:15 Lunch (Provided)

12:15-1:15 From Scouting to Spraying: How Ohio Growers Got the Pest Control Results We Want!
Randy Zondag, will share how Ohio growers implemented nursery IPM techniques including the use of weather stations, leaf and soil moisture sensors, and phenology information. Hear how airblast sprayer calibration made the difference in achieving greater pest control - the result is great control with less pesticide!

1:15-1:45 Bark Splitting During Tree Production
Pesticides are often blamed for bark injury. Win Dunwell, UK Extension Specialist for Nursery Crops, will provide an overview of the many causes of bark splitting.

1:45-2:00 Set Targets

2:00 – 3:00 Spray Targets
Randy Zondag, OSU Extension Educator, will provide a real-time evaluation of the (water) application and will identify areas of the spray pattern that have been refined by the calibration and pre-spray inspection.

3:00-4:00 Collect Targets and Evaluate Results
Randy Zondag, will lead teams of participants through an explanation and interpretation of spray patterns on the targets. Changes that can be made to the sprayer to improve spray patterns will also be covered.

4:00-4:15 Evaluation and Conclusion of Program
Amy Fulcher, UK Extension Associate for Nursery Crops, will lead a discussion of the impact and utility of the information presented at the program.
