NURSE IN GENERAL PRACTICE (Treatment Room)

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Treatment Room Nurse

Main Purpose of Post: To share workload and responsibility of delivering Treatment Room duties with colleagues, making best use of clinical

skills within the Practices, enabling the Practices to be diverse in the services provided.

Provide a service complementary to GPs

To provide appointments

To provide a high quality, easily accessible service

Responsible to: Senior Treatment Room Nurse, the Group Administrator and Partners.

Qualification: RGN/ Adult Nursing, NMC Registered (Revalidation), Disclosure.

Hours per week: 18 hours per week 9am- 6pm Thursday and Friday

Band: 5

Salary: Dependent on Experience

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To be able to hold TR sessions for patients without seeing a GP first.

2. To diagnose, discharge or refer to GP.

3. Encourage the use of management and prescribing protocols.

4. To be cost effective.

5. To promote healthy lifestyles.

6. To supervise HCA and phlebotomist

7. To present an alternative choice of care to patients.

8. Ordering and checking equipment and stock.

THE ROLE

1. Clinical

1.1 To provide a holistic, clinical nursing service by attending to referrals and self-referrals of practice patients.

Making an assessment of their physical and social needs,

Implementing an agreed management plan with patients including appropriate referral.

1.2 To set standards of care by implementing protocols and encouraging health promotion activities.

1.3 With support of General Practitioners to manage minor injuries, dressings, investigations and treatments.

2. Audit

2.1. To ensure Clinical Nursing activities are evidence based.

2.2 To undertake an active role in carrying out audits in conjunction with other health professionals.

This will have a broad objective of improving or re-evaluating Nursing care.

3. Management

3.1 To ensure Nursing activities remain within broad policy objectives of the Group.

3.2 To report, document and evaluate your work as a Nurse and to demonstrate its importance both to patients and the Surgery.

4. Professional

4.1 To provide a high standard of Professional conduct and Nursing care at all times in accordance with the NMC code of conduct.

4.2 To participate in teaching student nurses, medical students (GPRs) and other students as appropriate.

4.3 To attend relevant meetings, courses, seminars and keep professionally up-to-date.

4.4 Any other duties considered relevant to the Post.
