The world is unwell and thrash metallers Nuestros Derechos are providing the fitting soundtrack with their full-length debut 'Adrift'. Don’t get fooled by the catchy riffs and strong melodies, because the 12 well-crafted songs on this release all embody a bleak view on mankind.
The band teamed up again with their regular crew: studio engineer and producer Menno Bakker and mastering engineer Alan Douches of West West Side Music, who both collaborated on the band’s previous releases.
The result is in the vein of its predecessors - 2008’s EP ‘Struggling with the Dark’ and 2005’s split-CD ‘Split ‘em All’ - but surpasses in intensity, brutality and aggression. ‘Adrift’ is a consistent, vivid and honest album packed with aggressive guitars, a deliciously rumbling bass, whipping drums and vicious screams and growls as vocals.
From the fierce opening track Under the Surface to the compelling Soil to Embrace, and from the jackhammer blitzkrieg of Crystal Demon to the final Trash Vortex, it captures the band on their apocalyptic best.
Sometimes slightly slower than fans might expect (such as The Great Disruption), sometimes with a dirty punk vibe (such as Tardigrade), or a surprising shuffle (such as Bockereyders, the only track featuring Dutch lyrics), but always to-the-point, with persuasion and fury.
‘Adrift’ is a compact, fire-breathing album with a straightforward approach, lots of power and a strong sense of urgency: the collective, sincere efforts as a band to expose and capture raw emotions.
