Richard’s Ramblings

For our members this has been an action packed year to date as we approach the forth tournament on the NSWMSA calendar. I wish to report the committee has been hard at it with a number of projects in the offering particularly with NSWMSA hosting the Australian Masters Championships in 2014 for which the cry is still constant in that our organization will require the support of a good number of our members to ensure the event is conducted in the same or better vein than our last hosting in 2005.

The location of the Championships has been provisionally allocated however there are a number of factors which remain to be ironed out before final confirmation.

The process involved assessment of submissions of Expressions of Interest (EOI) provided by interested parties who were to exhibit an ability to meet the NSWMSA Specification developed in accordance with the guidelines provided by AMSA to ensure a successful and inclusive tournament. EOIs were received from Bathurst, Coffs Harbor, Dural and Milperra (Roselands). Those parties are thanked for their interest in supporting the aims of this project.

On a sad note, the situation which arose from a number of circumstances led to the departure of our Secretary, Garry Irwin, from office following our last tournament was resolved when Jason Davies was elected to the Secretary’s position for the rest of our operational year.

Garry’s drive for the job had taken a backseat due to the previously mentioned circumstances and Garry is thanked for his contributions over an extended period of time.

While Jason recently returned to the committee this year after a brief sojourn away his enthusiasm has prompted the successful progression of a number of projects including the launching of our new website under the superintendence of ”Webmaster” Bill Linton. This project is of importance to the organization in an era of mass and quality communication and can only benefit our operation and effectiveness.

The next tournament of the year following Bathurst is our State Titles to be held again at the Dural Squash complex on the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of next month. Organization of the event is well advanced with the Dinner/Dance to be held at the nearby Galston Club.

Accommodation arrangements have been made with the local hotel and caravan park who have offered advantageous rates. Wendy Fox can be contacted for bookings of the available 24 rooms at the hotel. The management of Dural Squash Centre have an arrangement for discount accommodation at the Crown Plaza in Castle Hill which has been extended to our members for this tournament.

Information about the tournament will be posted on the website but members are reminded of the NSWMSA policy generally requiring members to compete in these titles as a precondition for nomination in the state team for the Australian Titles this September in Canberra. Members will be able to gain assistance from Committee members with entries for the Australian Titles at the Dural Tournament but it is suggested Sue Barnes be contacted urgently for any accommodation assistance in September.

Yours in Squash

A man and his wife were celebrating 50 years together. Their three children, all very successful, agreed to come to Sunday dinner in their honour.
"Happy Anniversary Mum and Dad," gushed son number one, a surgeon. "Sorry I'm running late. I had an emergency at the hospital with a patient, you know how it is, and I didn't have time to get you a gift."
"Not to worry" said the father, the important thing is that we're all together today."
Son number two, a lawyer, arrived and announced, "You and Mum look great, Dad. I just flew in from Perth between cases and didn't have time to shop for you."
"It's nothing," said the father. "We're glad you were able to come."
Just then the daughter, a marketing executive, arrived. "Hello and Happy Anniversary! I'm sorry but my boss is sending me out of town and I was really busy packing so I didn't have time to get you anything."
"No problem," said the father.
After they finished dessert, the father said, "There's something your mother and I have wanted to tell you for a long time. You see, we were very poor. Despite this, we were able to send each of you to university. Throughout the years your mother and I knew we loved each other very much, but we just never found the time to get married."
The three children gasped and all said, "You mean we're bastards?"

"Yes," said the father. "Miserable ones, too.''
