Report

East Anglia II have drawn level with their first team at the top of the Norfolk SRA Premier League following their 17-7 victory at home to Barnham Broom, who have now slipped into the relegation zone. Ashley Briggs and Steve Mooney both won their matches in straight games against Jonathan Pearson and Alan Soame respectively while the reigning Norfolk champion, David Youngs, beat Simon Howling 3-1 in the second string match. For the beaten Barnham side Vince Somers beat Mark Rolfe 3-1 while in the first string match Matthew Bolt beat Tim Allenden 13-9 in the fifth.

Bannatyne’s have moved off the bottom of the table after their emphatic 20-2 victory over Diss who are now bottom. Diss were without their regular No.1, Neil Cross, and this obviously didn’t help them as Paul Bradnock, Kevin Harvey and Max and Ali Dawson all won their matches in straight games while the current Norfolk junior champion, Jordan Creed beat Tom Bobbins 3-2, coming out on top 13-10 in the fifth.

Broadland’s run of disappointing results continued as they conceded a maximum at Potters, going down 20-6. Both Eric Plane and Paul Field won their matches 3-2, beating John Bird and Paul Atterton respectively while David Hall and Rob Hambrook both won 3-1 against Justin Miller and Richard Millman. To round off a good night for Potters Jamie Goodrich beat Ian Cox 3-0 in the first string match.

Sportspark maintained their unbeaten record in Division One winning 14-7 away to East Anglia III. Joe Plumridge beat Anthony Raywood 3-1 while Eddie Webber and Andrew Trim both won in straight games against Nick Ross and Gary Snelling respectively. For the beaten East Anglia side Matt Johnson and Hadleigh Farrer both won in straight games.

East Anglia IV fared better away at struggling Cromer winning 16-10 but it was a close run thing as Mike Robinson beat Louise Taylor 3-2 and Jack Pearse had to come from 0-2 down to beat Ben Herrieven. Jonny Lawes had an easier match winning in straight games while for Cromer Henri Paul beat Brian Cooper who was forced to retire with a pulled hamstring while Richard Keeble beat Paul Gretton 3-1.

North Walsham are another team in the Division who are struggling and they lost 17-4 at home to North Norfolk. Matt Sumner who beat Simon Watson in straight games was their only winner but for North Norfolk Peter Scott, Jason Gollaglee and captain Tim Perry all won their matches 3-0 while Kevin Blake won 3-1.

In Division Two Potters II won for the first time, beating Barnham Broom II 15-7. David Cook and Cliff High both won in straight games while Darren Green won 3-1. For Barnham Dean Goodrum won 3-0 and Stuart Bowes 3-1. Beccles beat UEA 18-5 in a match which was closer than the score might suggest. Although both Sean Higginbotham and Peter Aldous comfortably won in straight games, Liam Baines 3-0 victory over Dom Williams was much less clear cut as each game had a 10-8 scoreline while James Hartley just beat Luke Grindle 9-7 in the fifth after losing the first two games. Ben May who won 3-1 was the students’ one winner.

Oasis won for the first time in Division Three beating East Anglia V 17-6 as Phil Magem, Richard Clamp and John Munday all won 3-1 while captain Richard Hall won in straight games. Mike Lupton who beat Mark Cullum in straight games won for the beaten East Anglia side. Wensum Lodge won a closely contested match against UEA II, winning 19-10 with Graham Woodford, Marco Valori and Ian Pearson all winning 3-2 and Paul Parker taking the fifth string match 3-1. Philip Slack who beat Steve Cunningham 3-2 won for the students.
