Introductions and attendance:

Jim Craddock sent his reqrets, he was in Switzerland during the conference call.

Craig Amey had a family illness and could not attend. He emailed support for assisting with appropriate state legislation for UAS, which varies a lot in scope and content, most being reactive to perceived privacy issues. He also supports certification in the interest of both our members and the public. He is involved in a newly established a Michigan UAS task force.

Introduction by Brad Guinther, (Brad please fill in where I misquote) Brad manages UAS Operations at HGA in Birmingham. He has been flying for 3-4 years, and is associated with Louisiana Tech. His firm flew under their 333 and he is a manned pilot. Brad is now also an RPIC and has been in the Survey ng profession for 10 years, he is working on his license.

  1. Agreed by all that a conference call once per month is adequate to achieving our goals.
  2. Joanne can arrange the conference calls.
  1. One of the agreed on first steps was to create a White Paper regarding Best Pratice for UAS and Survey.
  2. Joe Paiva will look at the “Oakridge Labs Best practices” publication and weed through the document, using that and other resources to compile a table of contents for the committee to reveiw and build on (if possible by next meeting)
  3. He will arrange a common portal in Google docs for viewing and editing
  1. Joanne recommended that we look into NSPS funding to hire a technical writer to assist in putting together a White Paper, Standard operating procedures, Training Best Practices, Safety Operations and other necessary documents to set as standards to assist NSPS in development guides. Joanne will look into the process for funding for when and if the UAS committee decides if this will be helpful.
  1. Discussion was in agreement that the committee should have a page on the NSPS website to use as a databank for surveyors.
  2. Maintain current links to Best Practice documents to help develope the UAS industry
  3. Link to other organization websites
  4. Online resource links.
  5. Articles on technical trends

Joanne will start the discussion with Curt and Trish on what the process is to make this happen.

  1. Become members and liaison with other national UAS organizations such as UAVSI
  2. This will give UAS as a legitimate survey tool national visibility
  1. Qualified UAS Surveyor Certification:

Discussion: This is fairly involved. The committee will need to draft a one page justification of this recommendation to establish for submission to the NSPS Executive board. Other committees that have established (Hydrographer, Federal Surveyors, Floodplain, CST), and are attempting to establish (ALTA committee) certificationshould be consulted as to what is involved.

Next Meeting May 8, 9 AM Hawaii Time.
