NSBHS Local Scholarships

The following is the 2016-2017 list of local scholarship opportunities. Please read the requirements carefully and provide all the requested information. Students are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Please visit our website to check on any additional scholarship opportunities as they become available.

Scholarship Boot Camp – Get a jump on applying for local scholarships by attending the boot camp on February 15, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 (noon) in the Media Center. Get help completing the interactive standard application and writing your essay. Be sure to bring a flash drive, a rough draft of your essay and a copy of this list, with the scholarships highlighted, that you want to apply for.

PLEASE NOTE: All scholarships are subject to change at any time which means that they may not be available due to funding issues, the dollar amounts may change or the number of scholarships awarded may change. These scholarships are offered as a courtesy by the community. The awarding of scholarships by organizations or businesses is totally at their discretion. We appreciate the fact that they are trying to help Barracudas continue their education. Each individual scholarship requires a separate application.

REQUIREMENTS / AMOUNT
AAUW Scholarship / 1. Special Application - Attached
2. Must be a resident of New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater, Oak Hill, and Samsula for at least one
year
3. Must be accepted by a college or university at the time of the award / TBD
Alpha Phi Alpha Scholarship / 1. Special Application – Attached (with all documents and items of support)
2. Current high school transcripts. (Please highlight academic courses and test scores for
Junior and senior years)
3. Biographical essay (100 words/full page minimum)
4. Two letters of recommendation that includes comments about community service, civic
engagement, and citizenship

Aqua Park Sports Scholarship / 1. Application - Attached
2. Junior Year Report Card showing cumulative weighted GPA of 3.2 or higher
3. At least 50 hours Community Service at Aqua Park during high school tenure
4. Participation in FOUR semesters of school sports during high school tenure (preferably in at
Least TWO different sports)
5. At least ONE Letter of Reference (Teachers/Employers/VS Coordinators/Family/Friend, etc.
6. Short structured essay (<500 words) stating what sports participation has helped them accomplish/experience during their time at high school; what their aspirations are and how this scholarship will help them in the future
