ISMT (Indoor Simulated Marksmanship Trainer) Tactical Assault Course:

  1. Location:West Campus Field
  1. Event Rules:
  1. Four (4) Member Assault Team.
  1. The uniform will be full MARPAT, NWU or Tri color camouflage uniforms. Each member of the assault team will wear deuce gear with a Kevlar helmet and a M16A2 rubber replica(all provided by Villanova NROTC).
  1. The team will start at the designated position on Mendel Field where they will receive enemy contact and use buddy team rushes to assault through the objective (down the field, approx. 100 yards). Buddy rushes will be approximately 2.5 yards at a time per person, or two people per five yard mark on the field. A judge will ensure competitors do not run too far. The final stretch of the rush will be a prone crawl through a sand pit.
  1. At the end of 100 yard buddy rush, each team member will pick up the ISMT M16A2 training rifle and from the prone position fire at the ISMT screen five (5) yards down range. Each member will have the option to zero his or her rifle, and then begin shooting. The objective is to clear as many stages of the simulator as possible before moving on to the next simulator.
  1. There are Five(5) shooting stages. Each stage has Four(4) Targets that will appear in succession. The shooter must hit Three(3) of the Four(4) targets to advance to the next stage. If the shooter fails to hit Three (3) of the Four(4) targets then the entire team moves onto the next station. A judge must be present to ensure that all stages are cleared in this manner and to record the scores of the individual team members.
  1. If the team is not present at their designated preparation time they will be scored with a 0.
  1. Judging:
  2. Each team will be accompanied by one judge throughout the entire course. The judge will ensure that the team members do not exceed the buddy rush distance and only advance to the next ISMT stage if the score is high enough. The judge will also keep score for the individual team members and the team as a whole.
  1. Scoring:
  1. Each shooter will receive one point for every stage that they clear. At the end of the time, all four team members’ scores will be combined for a total team score.
  1. The overall winners are the teams with the most points total, points being number of stages cleared. In a tie situation, the winner is the team with the person who reached the highest level. If the highest scorers reached the same level, then the person with the most total hits at that level wins. If the total number of hits is the same, then the shortest completion time will win.
  1. Awards will be presented to the teams with the highest overall scores.
  1. Time:
  1. This event will have a ten (10) minute time limit for the entire evolution.

Buddy Swim Run:

  1. Locations:West Campus, Pavilion Pool.
  1. Event Rules:
  1. Two (2) member buddy teams.
  1. The buddy team will run a timed mile from the start point located on West Campus to the pool. The route map is located at the end of the document.
  1. Later, the same team will swim 4 lengths of the pool underwater will a 25 pound weight.
  2. Teammates may only advance the weight when both members are touching it.
  3. The weight must always be touched by a swimmer and may not be brought higher than two feet off the bottom of the pool deck.
  4. When a teammate needs air, the pair must stop while that teammate surfaces to get a breath, and the other teammate stays with the dumbbell.
  5. If the weight is left unattended, the team is disqualified.
  6. If the weight is brought to the surface, the team is disqualified.

4. Both events are scored for time, the times are then combined, and the team with the fastest time takes first place.

5. PT gear is worn during the run and swim trunks are worn for the swim.

6. If the team is not present at their designated preparation time they will be scored with a 0.

Corpsman Challenge:

  1. Location: West Campus Fields.
  1. Event Rules:
  1. Two (2) member teams in full NWU/MARPAT, flak jacket, Kevlar helmet.
  1. Teams will start at the predesignated ‘start’ position on Mendel Field. The event begins with a 50 yard sprint. At the 50-yard mark, members will then low crawl another 50 yards to a dummy patient.
  1. Members will execute a full body sweep for injuries, at which time the scorekeeper/examiner will inform the team of their patient’s condition (at random).
  1. The patient will have one of a possible 6 conditions:
  2. Amputation below the knee of left leg bleed
  3. Amputation below the knee of right leg
  4. Amputation below the elbow left arm
  5. Amputation below the elbow right arm
  6. Gunshot wound to left leg (mid-thigh) spurting blood
  7. Gunshot wound to right leg (mid-thigh) spurting blood

  1. The scorekeeper/examiner will (at random) inform the competing team that breathing, pulse, or both are absent from their patient. At this time, the team will verbalize the correct response (CPR or ventilation). Failure to do so will result in a loss of points.
  1. Members will then put the patient on the available stretcher and apply a blanket (for immediate treatment for shock) in preparation for the final leg of the challenge.
  1. The team will then run the patient on the stretcher for two (2×400m) laps around Mendel Field. The event is complete upon the conclusion of the two laps.

9. If the team is not present at their designated preparation time they will be scored with a 0.

  1. Time
  1. This is a timed event. The scorekeeper/examiner will be keeping a time for each team to complete the event. Teams can be penalized 30 seconds for an infraction during the event (i.e. dropping the patient on the run, improperly applying a tourniquet, etc.) at the scorekeeper/examiner’s discretion.

The winner of the event will be the team with the most points. If multiple teams have the maximum amount of points (14/14), or if the top teams are tied at a certain number of points, the winning team will be decided by the shortest overall time of completion.

*NOTE* Before the event is run, a 15 minute brief will be given to competing teams. Included in the brief will be instructions on how to perform a rapid assessment of the patient, apply a tourniquet, check for breathing, check for a pulse, and properly transport a patient. All skills will be demonstrated quickly during the brief. Following the brief, a demonstration of the entire event will take place for no longer than 10 minutes and will include time for any questions. The event will commence at that point.
