The ride and tie events will be held in junction with the Lucky Five/Descanso Endurance Ride. There will be an AERC sanctioned 50 and 25 mile ride and a 15 mile fun ride on Saturday. On Sunday, in addition to the ride and tie events, there will be an AERC sanctioned 25 mile ride and a 15 mile fun ride.

RIDE AND TIE. There will be both a long (21 miles) and a short (15 miles) course. The ride and tie will start at 7:00 a.m. prior to the limited distance ride. Horses are required to vet in on Saturday.

EQUATHON. There will be both a short course (16 miles) and a long course (25 miles). The short course will consist of two 8 mile loops. The rider will do an 8 mile loop which will come back to basecamp. As soon as the horse reaches criteria, the runner will leave and run the same 8 mile course finishing back at basecamp. When the veterinarians return to basecamp, the horse will have to pass a vet check to receive a completion. The long course will have the rider doing the same 14 mile section as the first loop of the LD ride. When the horse reaches criteria at the vet check, the runner can leave and complete the 11 mile section back to basecamp. The horse must pass a vet check to get a completion. The equathan will start at the same time as the LD ride. This event can be done by one person doing both the ride and the run or 2 people (one riding and one running). Horses must be vetted on Saturday. The participants will start at the same time as the 25 mile ride.

Participants in these ride and tie events must be a member of the Ride & Tie Association. Annual dues are $25 and can be paid at time of entry.

Entry includes dinner Saturday night, continental breakfast on Sunday, barbeque after event, and participation t-shirt. Extra Saturday meal tickets can be purchased for $15

DIRECTIONS TO BASE CAMP: From San Diego via I-5 or I-15, go east on I-8 approximately 35 miles. Go past Alpine, and the Viejas Casino. Exit at Highway 79/Descanso (exit 40). Turn left and go north under the freeway. A mile down the road (at the café), turn left onto Riverside Drive. The store and gas station will be about 1/2 mile down the road on the left and the basecamp will be ¼ mile past that on the right.

AGREEMENT & RELEASE OF ALL LIABILITY

I, ______, in consideration of the acceptance of this entry hereby acknowledge that I have voluntarily applied to participate in The Descanso Ride & Tie.

I am aware that participating in this event involves the risk of injury to my person and property, involves being in remote areas for extended periods of time, far from communications, transportation, medical facilities; that these areas have many natural and man-made hazards which ride management cannot anticipate, identify, modify or eliminate, that accidents can happen to anyone at any time. I voluntarily accept all risk of personal injury (including death), and property damage arising from my attendance and participation in this event.

As lawful consideration for being permitted to participate in this event, I hereby agree that I, my heirs, personal representatives and assigns, will not make a claim against or sue AERC, the State of California Department of Parks & Recreation, the Merigan Ranch, the Ride & Tie Assoc., The Descanso Ride, their employees, officers, directors, members agents, or affiliated entities for any injury or damage arising from the negligence or other acts, however caused, of the The Descanso Ride, their employees, officers, members, agents, contractors, guests, invitees, etc.

In addition, I hereby release and discharge the AERC, State of California Department of Parks & Recreation, the Merigan Ranch, the Ride & Tie Assoc., The Descanso Ride, their officers, directors, members, employees, agents, contractors, guests, invitees and affiliated entities, from all actions, claims or demands, that I, my personal representatives or assigns, now have or may hereafter have, for injuries or property damage resulting from my participating in The Descanso Ride. I agree that this release includes injury or damage caused in whole or in part by negligence, active or passive, of The Descanso Ride, and their members, employees, landowners, agents and contracting parties. I have carefully read this agreement. I understand that it is a complete release of liability and a promise not to sue or to make a claim. I am aware that it is a contract between The Descanso Ride and myself.

INDEMNITY AGREEMENT AND RELEASE

I am aware that participating in this event involves the risk of injury (or death) to the person or property of this minor. I agree to maintain adequate medical insurance coverage for said minor.

As lawful consideration for the participation of this minor in this event, I hereby agree that I will indemnify, defend and hold harmless AERC, the State of California Department of Parks & Recreation, the Merigan Ranch, the Ride & Tie Assoc., The Descanso Ride, and their officers, directors, members, employees, agents, guests, invitees, and contracting parties from any claim, demand, complaint, or cause of action asserted by or on behalf of the minor, for personal injury or property damage, however caused. This agreement extends to injuries to the minor caused in whole or in part by the negligence, active or passive, of The Descanso Ride, and their officers, directors, members, employees, agents, guests, invitees, or contracting parties.

I have carefully read this agreement. I understand that it is a binding contract between The Descanso Ride and me, and that it requires me to indemnify these entities against claims for injuries to the minor listed above.
