You Make the Call !

In the top of the seventh inning, the home team leads 3-2. With a runner on third base, the visiting coach puts on a squeeze play. The runner at 3rd breaks for home on the pitcher's motion. The first baseman, aware of the situation, races toward home plate, and catches the pitch in front of the plate and tags the sliding runner before he can reach the plate. What’s the call?

Answer is later in the newsletter!

Dear Players, Coaches, Parents, and Fans,

Congratulations on another fine baseball year!! On the high school varsity level, we struggled early (0-7) but rebounded and finished the season 7-12. JV had a very impressive 15-2 record. We have heard of a number of good players at the middle schools so we are enthusiastic about next season! I’d like to thank all the coaches, administrators, fans, and especially parents for all their support throughout the season at all levels. Enjoy the summer and good luck to all those summer teams out there.

Umpire’s ruling!

This is obstruction on the batter by the first baseman. The ball will be declared dead, the runner will be awarded home and the batter will be awarded first base. (NFHS 8-1-1e-1)

Safety First!!

Most baseball injuries should be treated with the R.I.C.E. method.

- Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

Heat (Bengay, Flexall, etc) should NEVER be used to treat soreness/swelling unless told to by a physician. Ice the area for 10-12 minutes, wait an hour, and repeat as needed. Heat may be used prior to a game/practice in order to loosen up tight muscles but heat generally should not be used to treat injuries.
