HEAD OF MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS
JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible to:Chief Executive
Responsible for:Marketing Manager, Press & PR Manager, Marketing Officer, Audience Development & Community Liaison Officer, Marketing Assistant, Customer Relations Manager, Box Office Manager, Box Office Supervisor,Box Office Assistants
Purpose of post:
- To ensure strong ticket sales and community engagement for all the work of Nottingham Playhouse.
- To play a key planning role in the senior management team of Nottingham Playhouse in particular to work closely with the Chief Executive and Artistic Director.
- To ensure the highest possible standards of Marketing, Sales and Communications are achieved within the allocated resources.
- Responsible for the management, supervision, delivery and financial control of the Marketing, Sales and Communications functions of Nottingham Playhouse Trust Ltd.
- To be responsible for all communications planning.
Duties include:
Marketing
- To create, in close consultation with the department and the Senior Management team, the three year strategic marketing plan.
- To manage and report on the implementation of the three year marketing plan.
- To generate, oversee and deliver against audience development targets.
- To play an active role in the planning process, ensuring marketing campaigns are formulated and delivered on time and within budget.
- To lead on the branding process, developing and protecting the brand image by monitoring and managing the organisation’s communications.
- To work closely with the Artistic Director to ensure appealing and accurate marketing of all in house productions in all spaces.
- To work closely with the Chief Executive to ensure optimum audiences and impact for visiting productions including dance, theatre, comedy and music.
- To ensure the high quality and timely delivery of all day to day marketing activities.
- To manage the Marketing Department ensuring that all its staff are effective, valued and enabled to make a full contribution to the work of the Playhouse.
- To be the line manager for Marketing staff, ensuring that they manage the staff they are responsible for effectively.
- To work closely with the Heads of Department (HODS) to ensure that relations throughout the organisation as they relate to marketing and promotion are supportive and informed.
- To promote the work of Nottingham Playhouse to the widest possible audience in such a way as to maximise attendance and income and create customer satisfaction.
- To ensure that all Playhouse productions, visiting work and all activities are promoted in an effective and appropriate manner.
- To liaise with and advise visiting companies on appropriate marketing strategies. This may involve meetings away from Nottingham Playhouse and seeing the work of the visiting companies
- To foster good relations with funders and their marketing function.
- To ensure that Tessitura is well maintained, exploited and developed in order to meet the purpose of the job.
- To initiate, propose and manage quantitative and qualitative market research projects to assist in meeting to objectives of the strategic marketing and development plan.
- To be responsible for the development and effective utilisation of the website and new technologies as they become widely used.
Sales
- To create robust plans for raising and maintaining both ticket sales and public profile.
- To agree and monitor targets for Box Office income, audience profile and audience numbers and to present reports and analysis regularly to senior management.
- To agree and monitor income streams and present reports and analysis regularly to the Chief Executive and Head of Finance Operations on progress towards the achievement of those targets.
- To develop a range of commercial packages and instigate cultivation opportunities specific to the many audiences/business partners of Nottingham Playhouse.
- Identify and fully exploit all opportunities to aid growth through external ticketing and marketing partnerships to the benefit of Nottingham Playhouse.
Communications
- To play a leading role in developing the public profile of the Playhouse, ensuring positive relationships with audience, media, funders, the community and sponsors.
- To maximise the press and media coverage of Nottingham Playhouse, ensuring a positive profile is projected and good editorial relationships are maintained and developed.
- To advocate Nottingham Playhouse at local, national and international level.
- To attend press nights and season launches.
- To play an active role in such regional and national fora as appropriate to represent the Playhouse – these might include tourism, regeneration, AMA and so forth.
Other
- To work closely with the Senior Management Team on strategic issues affecting Nottingham Playhouse and the sector
- To work closely with the Fundraising & Development department to maximise opportunities for fundraising and helping to deliver packages.
- To engage in region wide networking meetings with the arts and business sectors as appropriate
- To work with the customer facing teams to nurture policies which are welcoming to all sections of the community and develop effective customer care policies.
- To work closely with the Front of House team to develop new merchandise lines and liaise with the Front of House team over the marketing of such merchandise.
- To plan marketing expenditure and to prepare a marketing budget to be agreed with the Head of Finance & Operations, taking responsibility for and monitoring and controlling that budget.
- To regularly analyse data from Tessitura and to use that data in campaign planning and reporting.
- To regularly analyse marketing spend per head and to continually benchmark this to ensure value for money.
- To advise on and participate in the recruitment and appointment of all Marketing Department staff.
- To identify and prioritise training needs within the marketing team and to ensure that all staff are knowledgeable within their own areas of responsibility.
- To take the lead on the planning for and delivery of Tessitura, Customer Relationship Management system,across the organisation.
- To produce written monthly reports for the Board meetings and attend Board meetings when required.
- To be responsible for Data Protection issues, keeping abreast of legal developments and ensuring that Nottingham Playhouse is compliant.
General
- To always act in the best interests of Nottingham Playhouse
