Special Cell solves Pune Serial Blasts of Ist August, 2012
The Special Cell, Delhi Police have busted another Indian Mujahideen module with its roots in Maharashtra. Three members of the module have been arrested and explosives, detonators and other incriminating material have been recovered from them. With the arrest of this module, the blasts that shook Pune on 1st August, 2012 have been solved. The module had plans to carry out similar blasts in Delhi during the forthcoming festival season.
During the interrogation of Syed Zabiuddin @ Zabi @ Abu Jundal, it had come to light that terrorist organizations based overseas were planning to strike in major cities and had drawn up elaborate plans in this regard. A case was registered following the arrest of Syed Zabiuddin @ Zabi @ Abu Jundal under various sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Investigations revealed that L-e-T militant Fayyaz Ahmed Qagzi, originally a resident of Beed, Maharashtra and presently based in a West Asian country was co-ordinating with Iqbal Bhatkal and Riaz Bhatkal, originally residents of Bhatkal, Karnataka, and belonging to Indian Mujahideen, and presently based in Pakistan to carry out terrorist strikes in India. This information was further developed and it was learnt that militants of Indian Mujahideen are likely to set a base in Delhi with the intention to carry out blasts.
Piecing together various bits of information from the interrogation of Abu Jundal and following them up diligently, led to the identification of their hide-out at Pul Prahladpur, Delhi. Surveillance was mounted and on 26/09/2012, two militants of Indian Mujahideen were apprehended from the area of Pul Prahladpur. They were identified as Asad Khan (aged 33 years) s/o Jamshid Ali Khan r/o Tawakkal Nagar, Naigaon, Distt. Aurangabad, Maharashtra and Imran Khan (aged 31 years) s/o Wajid Khan r/o Peer, Bhurahan Nagar, near Masjid–e-Saalehind, Nanded, Maharashtra. They were found carrying two ruck-sacks. The search of the ruck-sacks led to the recovery of 4 kgs of explosive material, 8 detonators and other incriminating material. They were arrested under appropriate sections of law. Subsequently, their hide-out at Pul Prahladpur was raided. Articles used for fabricating IEDs like 9 volt batteries, circuits, ball bearings, nails and other incriminating material (IED) were recovered.
Both the arrested persons were interrogated during which it came to light that they are members of Indian Mujahideen and had come to Delhi on the directions of Pakistan based Riyaz Bhatkal, Iqbal Bhatkal of Indian Mujahideen and Fayyaz Qagzi of Lashkar-e-Taiba for carrying out bomb blasts in Delhi. They further stated that Riyaz and Iqbal Bhatkal had told them that on reaching Delhi, they would be given local support by one Raju Bhai.
They were received by ‘Raju Bhai’, who had made arrangements for their stay by hiring a house in Pul Prahladpur area and furnishing it with items of daily need sufficient to facilitate a long stay. They did not know more about Raju Bhai, as he was known only to Riyaz and Iqbal Bhatkal. The two terrorists met him for the first time at Nehru Place upon their arrival in Delhi and were escorted to their hide-out at Pul Prahladpur by him. As per the descriptive roll of Raju Bhai provided by the arrested accused, he is approximately 40 yrs of age and speaks Urdu-Hindi in North Indian accent. No further details of Raju Bhai are available except for the portrait sketch developed on the basis of the description provided by the two.
They further disclosed that they alongwith other members of the module had carried out serial blasts in Pune on 1st of August, 2012, and that other members of the module from Maharashtra would join them in Delhi.
