CertainTeed ICON Composite Siding is a primer-coated, filled polyurethane composite with integral surface texture. It is less susceptible to warping, rot, and insect damage than wood, and has excellent freeze-thaw resistance. It is available in a factory primed finish. ICON comes with a standard 30-year limited warranty that is transferable once.

Horizontal siding is available in a 7” lap style.

CertainTeed ICON Composite siding is available with the following LEED Credit potential:

A. Recycled Content: ICON Contains 40-80% recycled fly ash.

B. Durability: CertainTeed ICON Siding products have excellent durability characteristics. Products are impervious to wood boring insects, resistant to UV degradation, will not rot, and have superior impact resistance. ICON Siding products have a 30 year warranty, demonstrating CertainTeed’s confidence in the durability of their product.

C. Local Manufacturing: Using products that are produced locally decreases the environmental impact associated with transportation, including the emission of greenhouse gases. Many of the raw materials used to manufacture ICON siding products are sourced from within 500 miles of our plants to reduce transportation impacts.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** To avoid voiding of warranty, house wraps, vapor retarders, etc. must be properly installed in accordance with local building code requirements.

2.1  MANUFACTURER

2.2  PANELS

  1. Surface Burning Characteristics: Flame Spread Classification: C, when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84.
  2. Transverse Load Resistance (Wind-load): Allowable Design Pressure = 46.7psf, per Section 4.7 of AC92, when tested in accordance with ASTM E330.
  3. Water Infiltration - Resistance of water penetration into the wall assembly: Passed, when tested in accordance with E331.
  4. Water Absorption: Tested in accordance with C1185.

5.  Freeze / Thaw Resistance: No cracking, checking, crazing, erosion, delamination or other distress, when tested in accordance with Section 3.3 of AC389.

6.  Accelerated Weathering: No cracking, checking, crazing, erosion, delamination or other distress, when tested in accordance with Section 4.3 of AC389 (G155).

7.  Termite Resistance: Demonstrated resistance to termite attack equivalent to that of preservative-treated or the heartwood of naturally durable wood, when tested in accordance with AWPA E1.

8.  Salt Spray Resistance: No cracking, checking, crazing, erosion, delamination or other distress, when tested in accordance with Section 4.5 of AC92, (B117).

  1. Flexural Strength: Tested in accordance with Section 3.1.1 of AC389 (D6109).
  2. Density: Tested in accordance with Section 3.1.2 of AC389 (D1622).
  3. Coefficient of Linear Thermal Expansion: Testing in accordance with Section 3.1.1 of AC389 (D6341).

  5. Nail Pull-Through Resistance: Tested in accordance with Section 4.2 of AC389 (D1037).

  2. Thickness: 5/16 inch (7.9 mm), plus or minus .04 inch (1 mm).
  3. Length: 12 feet (3657 mm), plus 0, minus 1/8 inch (3 mm) and 16 feet (4,877 mm)

  5. Width: 8-1/4 inches (210 mm) wide.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1  EXAMINATION

  1. Prior to commencing installation, verify governing dimensions of building and condition of substrate.

B.  If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2  PREPARATION

  1. Examine, clean, and repair as necessary any substrate conditions that would be detrimental to proper installation.
  1. Do not begin installation until unacceptable conditions have been corrected.

3.3  INSTALLATION

  1. Install in accordance with manufacturer's installation instructions
  2. Read warranty and comply with all terms necessary to maintain warranty coverage.
  3. Over Structural Wood and Wood-Composite Sheathing: Fasten siding through sheathing into studs.
  1. Over Foam or Gypsum Based Sheathing: Read and comply with sheathing manufacturer's recommendations.
  2. For sheathing of 1 inch (25 mm) thickness or less, fasten through sheathing into studs using correspondingly longer fasteners.
  1. Do not install siding less than 2 inches (51 mm) from surface of ground nor closer than 2 inch (51 mm) to roofs, patios, porches, and other surfaces where water may collect.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Non-factory finished siding must be painted within 6 months of installation with a minimum of two topcoats.

  1. Finish Painting: Paint siding within 6 months after installation.

3.4  CLEANING

  1. At completion of work, remove debris caused by siding installation from project site.
  1. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
