Memorandum written in front of the Old Record by the present custodian

“I ,John Needles, son of Edward Nedels and Mary (Lamb) his wife, born 10 mo. 6 1786, when less than one year old was brought to Baltimore by my parents, who came to attend the yearly meeting of Friends (which was the second yearly meeting held in the town of Baltimore) in 1787.

In the year I came to Baltimore to live, and have attended every yearly meeting held at Baltimore since that time, and nearly every sitting of them, I believe there are not more Friends in the city now than there were when I came in 1808.” 3 mo 1853

(Note by the present custodian) On the seventh day of the week and eleventh of the first month 1840, departed this life my dearly beloved wife Eliza (Matthews) Needles in the 47th year of her age, and on secondary day she was deposited in a vault, where she remained until the 26th of 4th month, when she was removed to the Friends burying ground on the Hartford road, about 1 ½ from the city of Baltimore. May our children follow the precepts and examples of their mother, who was a pattern worthy to be imitated. Her loss is irreparable to me. 5 mo 1840 John Needles

into a mansion prepared for the righteous, there to dwell for ever and ever with all those, who having washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb, will be permitted to stand around the throne and sing His praises with Angels and Archangels for ever and ever. John Needles

On the first day of the ninth month, 1851- John Needles (son of Edward Nedels and Mary (Lamb) his wife) and Mary Ann Bowers, daughter of John and Rosamund Bowers, were joined in marriage (his third marriage) at the house of her sister Sara R. [117]

Elizabeth Needles, daughter of Edward Needles and Sarah (Berry) Nedels, departed this life on the 30th day of the 8th month 1870 in the 81st year of her age. She died at the house of her brother John Needles in Baltimore. She had lived in great unity with her friends, who were ready to testify to her purity of mind and manners; beloved by all who knew her. Her last sickness was of a long duration and her release a happy one for her, as no doubt is left upon our minds but that her pure spirit is gone to everlasting life.
