NOTE: Every Stance in This Form Is a Riding Stance ( Horse Stance ) with the Feet Pointing

TekkiShodan

NOTE: Every stance in this form is a riding stance ("Horse stance") with the feet pointing toward N. There are instances, however, when one should pivot an attack or block in a certain direction to the left or right of the direction N. When this is to be done it is noted in the 'Direction' column. Because riding stances are used throughout, the 'Stance' column has been omitted in this document.

(29 movements)

Direction / Movement / Action
N / -- / Attention/Ready
E / Cross the Lf over and in front of the Rf. Then step out with the Rf toward E into.. / R open backhand strike
E / Pivot body (Chest-E) / L elbow strike (into the right palm)
W / Chamber both fists at the left hip. Turn head sharply toward W / R elbow strike (L fist chambered vertically above the right fist; this is sometimes referred to as a "small hinge shape")
W / -- / L low forearm block
W / -- / R horizontal punch
N / Cross the Rf over and in front of the Lf. Then step out with the Lf toward W / R middle inward forearm block (done with ulna side of the wrist)
N / The left arm does an upward sweeping block as the right arm swings down into a low forearm block (toward N)
N / Next, bring the L arm sharply into a middle inward forearm block (ulna side; R fist under the left elbow to block)
W / Turn head sharply toward W
W / Looking toward W / Chamber the Lf up as close to the pelvis as possible and do what is sometimes called a "returning wave kick". This acts like an inside crescent kick at first, performing either a foot sweep or blocking a kick. Then the leg swings back out (returning wave) as you return to a horse stance.NOTE: This is a move inherent to Japanese forms and is not a technique that most TKD practitioners are used to.
W / Replace the Lf into the horse stance (chest-W) / L outward middle block (ulna side of wrist); R-fist guarding, palm-down, under the L elbow
E / Look sharply toward E / Right "returning wave kick" (as above)
E / Replace the Rf into a horse stance (Chest-E) / L inward middle forearm block (ulna side of wrist, toward E)
W / Turn head sharply toward W / Chamber both fists to the R-hip. This is a right elbow strike toward S with the L fist chambered vertically above it. ("small hinge shape")
W / Look toward W / Snap both fists out into Parallel punches.Yell!
W / without moving the stance, cross the arms and do... / L open backhand strike
NOTE: From here, the pattern repeats itself entirely, but mirrored for the opposite side. In other words, you'll repeat each of the above moves but changing everything "left" to "right" and vice versa and changing "W" to "E" and vice versa.
You should finish the form with parallel punches toward E and a <Yell!
N / Pull the Rf -> Lf / Ready.
