He is working today.
They are coming tomorrow.
We are eating.
It was playing.
You are sleeping.
I am typing the lesson.

He is studying.
She is listening to music.
Ask each student to draw out a card and read what he/she sees on the card. / Engage / 5Minut / T-S
By doing the above, ask the students to think and point out what they notice to be unique in the sentences. Write down allsentences on the board to help in the brainstorming. / Engage / 5Minutes / T-S
In order to elicit the topic, I can assign some simple activities(mime) to some students and then ask the students some questions like:
What are you doing.
What are your hobbies
What is she doing
What is he doing
What are they doing
RESPONSE: I am standing
I like singing
She is sitting
He is jumping
They are playing
From the giving response I will write down the definition of present continuous:
present continous tense shows what is happening at the moment.
Let the student give more examples of what is going on at the moment.
Example:
The teacher is teaching at the moment
We are learning at the moment
We are in the classroom… / Study / 7Minutes / T-S
How Present Continuous Tense is Formed
I will quickly write this on the board:
Present continuous tense is formed by adding “ing” to a regular verb. Then the teacher can mime some of the activities in study stage one, and write down the student response. Example
Walk + ing = walking
Jump + ing = Jumping
Sit + ing = Sitting
Stand + ing = Standing
I will also divide the class into groups and distribute cards with regular verbs and ask each group to produce the continuous form of the verb. / Study / 10Minute / T-S
I will divide classroom up into pairs. Each pair of students will receive a set of flashcards to be decided between them equally. The cards will have a picture of someone engaging in an action. Student one will display the flashcard to student two, and student two will need to answer out loud what activity the person on the flashcard is engaged in. To aid student one, the answer will be on the back of the card. If student two answers correctly, she/he takes the card and keeps it in a stack. This activity should bounce back and forth between the two students. / Study / 7minutes / S-S
Building on the previous exercise, students will be given a worksheet with pictures of people engaging in specific actions. Besides each picture will be a sentence where the student is required to fill in the blank on what action is taking place in the picture.
Activities
She ______in the pool.(swim/swimming)
He is ______(fish/fishing)
They are ______football(playing/play)
I am ______on the chair(sitting/sit)
We are ______to school(go/going) / Study / 6Minutes / T-S
Students will play a guessing game based on one student’s actions at the front of the class. A volunteer will stand in front of the class, and pick one of their favorite activities that they engage in on a regular basis (e.g, swimming, running, playing football, etc). From there, the rest of the members in class will have to guess what the student up front is doing, and answer in the correct tense (e.g Sarah is swimming). Whichever student guesses correctly will then go to the front of the class and pick their favorite activity and mime it out to the class like the previous student. This will repeat until the allotted time is up, or after the point where every student has answered correctly, and had a chance to give a miming example in front of the class. / Activate / 10Minute / S-S
I will divide the students into groups, and from their giving school textbook, allow each group sort out regular verbs, and on their own discover the continuous form of the verb, then use the word in the present continuous form to make two sentences. / Activate / 10Minute / S-S
