  • The District of Innovation application was submitted the day after the November board meeting. We should hear from this after the first of the year.
  • The Strategic Plan Committee will have its first meeting on January 5th at the high school.

The subcommittees have already met and we look forward to what this can do for us.

  • NTID Plan (Non Traditional Instructional Day) is in full swing. We had a forecast a couple of weeks ago that prompted everyone to be sure they were ready. Efforts at all school are appreciated in getting things ready to go.
  • Our MCHS STLP has made a PSA on NTID, you can see this on our website. There is a video and an animation piece with Questions & Answers that is really good. STLP has submitted this as a project and have qualified for state competition.
  • MCES is having a NTID/Canvas Night on December 10. There will be a chili supper and then a demo on how NTID/Canvas will work.
  • MCMS had a NTID dry run to see what it would look like. Everyone made sure they had a Canvas assignment entered. They used that as a learning experience to see where they were.
  • The Christmas Parade is Saturday, December 12 @ 1PM. The band will be participating, the district office has a float and all schools will be represented.

Kelly Bell, MCHS Principal

State of the High School Address

MCHS has been a proficient or distinguished high school for the past 5 years. The high school is very pleased to offer AP courses. We currently have 98 student enrolled in AP classes. For the 2014-15 school year, 21 students received a "3" or higher on their AP exam. There were 3 students who were named AP Scholars with Honors for 2014-2015(average of 3.25 on all AP Exams). There were 4 students who were named AP Scholars for 2014-2015 (3 or higher on three or more exams). Although our overall ACT score fell last year, many of our students continue to make progress on their overall ACT scores. We are pleased to be able to offer online ACT prep assistance this year to our students. Our End of Course Assessments had a decline last year, but we are striving to better prepare our students to be more successful in the future. We are looking to be able to offer two graduations in the future (December and May). This will allow our December graduates to be able to begin their postsecondary training in college or technical school starting in January. Also, we are pleased to be able to work closer with WKU at Glasgow in providing more opportunities for our seniors.

Good News from Schools

MCES - There is an artist painting the halls in the PS-2. One of the students told Mr. Gill the walls were coming to life. MAP testing is going on. He invited everyone out to the elementary school

Thursday night for the Chili Supper and the NTID informational presentation. The Christmas program will be Tuesday, December 15 @ MCHS gym @ 5PM.

MCMS - There was a good crowd for the Band & Art Show going on tonight. The middle school

21st Century is preparing for a production of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Students are getting ready for finals and the holidays.

Beth Miller

  • The Annual Nutrition Report card is a review of the nutritional requirements and regulations for food serviceand requires board approval.

Jamie Moss

  • The December One Child Count was completed and submitted on December 01. The number of students for this school year is 244.

Bennie Stephens

  • Both the classified and certified evaluation plans have to be reviewed and/or updated for the 2016-17 school year. The committees have to be approved by the board of education to carry out the work. The list of persons are included in the board packets.
  • The CDIP provides an outline of how we plan to address areas for improvement this year. The plan provides some strategies which will be used to help improve student learning. There are eight goals listed in the report. Most of the goals are set goals that we have to include.

Dwight Ross

  • The December financial reports are pretty well standard for the month. Revenues are consistent with last year and expenditures are down except for construction. MCHS has received notification of the SIG in the amount of $473,000 to be spent over the next two years.

The Draft Budget will be on the agenda for review in January.

Chris Huffman

  • There is not an Attendance Report for you tonight as the next attendance month has not ended yet. Attendance seems to improving a little now. We have had some sickness going on.
  • We have started the TDP (Truancy Diversion Program) with the CDW (Court Designated Worker). We may also form our own Fair Team at the school level to discuss barriers that keep students from attending school regularly. This will be a different approach that we might try before taking students to court. We plan to start this process after the first of the year.
  • Construction - We are right at 50% walls to truss. We have nine out of the sixteen classrooms floors poured. Botts Plumbing is working on the bathrooms in the old middle/high school to get them back to ADA standards. Everything else seems to be falling into place. Blacktop was laid today and some clean-up going on in the parking lot and the Ralph Edwards Road areas. Alliance will assist with the clean-up at no cost to us. The work on the steps in the primary building will take place over the Christmas break as well as adding a door into the cafeteria. The building will be pretty muchclosed, over the Christmas break. The Library is currently closed, books and furniture were moved out today. The remodel process in the Library will begin after the first of the year. Dr. Lile added that Dwight Ross and Donna Caffee go over the payment request to be sure they match the work done and the purchase orders. If they have questions they check with Chris. He is keeping daily calendar and the work flow.
  • Calendar - There is some legislation that could mandate the start date of school be after August 26. We have looked at some options for the calendar for the upcoming year. We do not have a calendar to present to you for approval at this time, but should in January or February. Dr. Lile has spoken to Jerri Rowland at Monroe County Vocational School and they are willing work with us.
