We Love Kids

5/12/13

Or at very least we try to. Unfortunately we often miss the mark on bringing up the next generation. We tend to either make children the center of our universe which is idolatry or we neglect our God given responsibilities to them because of our selfishness. The Bible is clear that we are to love and care for young people and also to train and mentor them. What a joy it is to be able to set the young up to be better off than we are. We will now take a look at our responsibilities as individuals, families, the church and the community to LOVE THE KIDS!!!

(Not idol, not idle)

With a Staff

John 10:11-13 – 11“I amthe good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.12The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.13The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

·  Not to make a generation grown in a bubble, rather to protect them from evil.

Jesus prayed this for His disciples in John 17:15 – Ido not ask that youtake them out of the world, but that youkeep them fromthe evil one.

(example of Caleb at the park with our footballs)

·  I should not only feel the need to shepherd my son but the generation that is around him. Not all of the young people have older people to lead and protect them.

Matthew 9:35-38 – 35And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.36When he saw the crowds,he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.37Then he said to his disciples,“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;38thereforepray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest tosend out laborers into his harvest.”

I pray that God will rise up leaders inside of homes, the church and the community.

At His Feet

Mark 5:21-24, 35-43 – 21When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake,a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake.22Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet.23He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands onher so that she will be healed and live.”24So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him.

35While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.“Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”

36Overhearingwhat they said, Jesus told him,“Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

37He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.38When they came to the home of the synagogue leader,Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly.39He went in and said to them,“Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.”40But they laughed at him.

After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was.41He took her by the handand said to her,“Talitha koum!”(which means“Little girl, I say to you, get up!”).42Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished.43He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.

·  We can save no one but what we can do is fall at the feet of Jesus pleading that he will come and put his hands on this generation. Jesus has the ability to provide life and hope where there is death and fear.

We will intercede for kids in prayer and in practice.

1.  This week pray specifically for God to turn the hearts of kids to Him.

2.  This week pray that God will provide shepherds for the young sheep.

3.  This week BE A SHEPHERD!!
