Part 1. General Expectations

  1. Norwood Elementary will work to ensure that required school level parental plans meet the requirements of section 1118 of the ESEA.
  2. A school-parent compact will be consistent with section 1118(d) of the ESEA.
  3. Schools will notify parents of the plan in an understandable and uniform format. We will have it available to the parents an public on the website, updating it periodically to meet changing needs of parents and Norwood.
  4. In carrying out the Title I, Part A, parental involvement requirements of parents with limited English proficiency, parents with disabilities, and parents of migratory children, including providing information and school reports required under section 1111 of the ESEA in an understandable and uniform format, to the extent possible, in a language parents understand.
  5. If the school-wide program plan for Title I, Part A developed under section 1114(b) of the ESEA, is no satisfactory to the parents of participating children, the school will submit any parent’s comments with the plan when submitted to the school district.
  6. The school will involve the parents in decisions how parental involvement is spent.
  7. Norwood will encourage strong parental involvement in decision making and support partnership among the school, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement.
  8. Parental involvement in Norwood would include as follows”

Parental involvement means participation in a two way meaningful communication regarding student learning.

a.) Parents are encouraged to play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning.

b.) Parents are encouraged to be actively involved in the child’s education.

c.) Parents are included, as appropriate, in decision making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child.

Part 2. Description of How Norwood Elementary will Implement Required School Parental Involvement Plan Components.

  1. Norwood Elementary will take the following actions to involve parents in the joint development of is parental involvement plan under section 1118 of the ESEA:

a.) Form a committee of at least one parent, administrator, Title I teacher, and at least two other teachers to develop the Norwood Plan.

  1. Norwood Elementary will take the following actions to involve parents in the process of school review an improvement under section 1116 of the ESEA:

a.) Surveys for parents

b.) Materials sent home

c.) Parent teacher conferences where all parents are scheduled for the fall.

  1. Norwood Elementary will hold an annual meeting to inform parents of the schools participation in Title I program and explain requirements and rights of parents to be involved. Norwood will convene the meeting at a convenient time for parents and offer a flexible number of additional meetings as needed. We will invite all parents to the meeting and encourage them to attend by:

a.) Offering babysitting

b.) Sending invitations

c.) Holding meetings on curriculum nights

d.) Serving refreshments

e.) Individual meetings scheduled as needed

  1. Norwood Elementary will provide parents information in a timely manner about Title I programs that include a description and explanation of the school’s curriculum, forms of academic assessment used to measure children’s progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet by:

a.) Including explanation of assessments on website

b.) Sending periodic reports home with scores and proficiency levels

c.) Providing an explanation of assessments on Progress Book

d.) Progress Book access numbers will be sent home with every student at the beginning of the school year.

  1. Norwood Elementary will at the request of parents, provide opportunities for parents to formulate suggestions and participate, as appropriate, in decisions about the education of their children. We Will respond to these suggestions as soon as practically possible by:

a.) Oral and written communication with parent

  1. Norwood Elementary will provide parents with an individual student report about the performance of their child on the state assessment in at least math, language arts and reading by:

a.) Providing parent the state generated report on the Ohio Achievement Assessment

  1. Norwood Elementary will provide parents a timely notice when their child is being taught for four (4) or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified within the meaning of the term in section 200.56 of the Title I Final Regulations, December 2, 2002 by sending them a letter.
  2. Norwood Elementary will provide assistance to parents of our students to understand the following:
  • The state’s academic content standards
  • The state’s student academic achievement standards
  • The state and local academic assessments including alternative assessments
  • Requirements of Title I Part A
  • How to monitor their student’s progress
  • How to work with educators

We will do this by:

a.) Giving progress book passwords to all parents

b.) Having curriculum nights

c.) Sending ODE website home

d.) Title I requirements listed on website

e.) Having parent teacher conferences offered twice year

f.) Accessing the national Parent Teacher Organization website for questions for parents to ask about working with educators

  1. Norwood Elementary will provide materials and training to help parents work with their children to improve their academic achievement by:

a.) Providing a lending library

b.) Training in computer literacy

c.) Family reading nights

d.) Listing websites that are helpful

e.) Holding grade level curriculum nights

  1. Norwood Elementary will, with the assistance of parents, educate staff on how to communicate and work with parents and coordinate programs to build ties between parents and school by:

a.) Holding staff meetings

b.) Parent survey with the following questions:

  1. What is the best way to build a positive relationship?
  2. What are some things to know about your child that will help us educate your child?
  3. What activities would you like to be involved in at school?

  1. Norwood Elementary will try to coordinate parental involvement with local preschool programs. We will share parent resource areas as available and support and encourage involvement in our reading nights and other curriculum events.
  2. Norwood Elementary will ensure information as related to school and parent programs is in an understandable format by:

a.) Providing explanations of assessment data

b.) Providing explanations of programs

c.) ELL letter
