After 30 years successful operation and following a strategic review, Northumbria Historic Churches Trust wishes to appoint a new secretary to help take it into an exciting future.
Secretary to the Trust (a volunteer post with expenses for which a budget has been set for the next 3 years)
Job Title: Secretary to the Trust.
Reports to: Chairman of the Trust. The Secretary also works closely with individual. Trustees on matters pertaining to their expertise.
Purpose: To act as Secretary to the Trust. Responding to enquiries from individual. Church officers. Servicing meetings of and advising trustees on and then administering grant offers.
Responsibilities
To ensure that potential applicantsare given sufficient information to enable them to make, if appropriate, an application to the Trust. Then scrutinise the information provided.
Providing the trustees with sufficient information to enable them to make a reasoned decision concerning grant aid.
Preparing for trustees' meetings, taking appropriate notes, and subsequently making grant offers and furnishing the trustees with minutes of each meeting.
Following up beneficiaries to ensure the grants are correctly used.
Implementing any strategies and instructions decided by the trustees including day to day financial matters.
Ensuring the governance of the Trust is both relevant within the appropriate rules, guidelines and recommendations and advise the trustees on these matters.
Liaising with organisations which may be of assistance to both. The Trust and its applicants and beneficiaries.
Competencies
Essential
Empathy and understanding of the need to apply for grant aid. Ideally, experience in a volunteer role or supporting volunteers.
Experience appropriate to the overall role of the post.
Good communicator, both written and oral. Experience of speaking in public.
Good organisation skills.
IT skills commensurate with the role.
Knowledge of the management structures of at least one of the main Christian denominations in England (C of E, RC, Methodist, URC).
Empathy with heritage of the built environment and preservation of churches.
Valid driving licence.
Access to own transport and office support equipment, including telephone and IT.
Desirable Experience
Dealing with people, especially volunteers.
Managing a charity.
Servicing committees.
Managing grant programmes and advisory work, preferably in a relevant field.
Terms and conditions
Terms and conditions will be agreed with the Chairman. The role is expected to require about 20 hours per month.
