Statistical Reporting Regions

The Criminal Justice Research and Statistics Unit reports crime, justice and wholesale alcohol supply statistics for the Northern Territory with regional breakdowns into six urban centres (Darwin, Palmerston, Alice Springs, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Nhulunbuy) and the Northern Territory Balance (the areas outside the urban centres).

The urban centre boundaries have been defined to conform to the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics[1].

Comments

The Criminal Justice Research and Statistics Unit updated its regional boundary definitions to match the ASGS boundaries in 2012. Regional data released by the Unit from July 2012 follow these boundaries, including data for earlier periods released after July 2012.

Publications released prior to July 2012 have not been amended. Hence, regional data for a particular period in the newer publications may not exactly match the data for the same period and region in the older publications.
