Aim: To study bronchial asthma (BA) incidence in the Arkhangelsk region and to identify a risk group in the population age structure.

Methods: Ecological study has been performed. Incidence rate (per 10000) and prevalence rate (per 10000) of BA were studied on territories of the Arkhangelsk region from 2005 to 2010 and in the age structure of urban population from 2001 to 2010. The Spearmen’s coefficient was used to identify a relationship between density of pollutant emissions and general BA incidence.

Results: BA prevalence rate among children in Koryazhma (211.6 ‰о), Novodvinsk (201.2 ‰о) and Arkhangelsk (197.4 ‰о) was 1.25 times higher than that in comparison to the regional level (142.4 ‰о). BA prevalence rate among adults in Arkhangelsk (154.9 ‰о) and Novodvinsk (162.5 ‰о) was higher than that in the region on the whole (116,9 ‰о). Children aged 3-9 years and persons over 60 comprise risk groups of BA incidence. Relationship between density of sulfur dioxide emission and BA prevalence rate among the children (rs = 0.50; р = 0.016) and adults (rs = 0.43; р = 0.046) have been determined.

Peculiarities of psychoemotional status of the second-year students of the Far Eastern Federal University, Vladivostok, have been examined with the help of the standard methods. An equilibrium state of intro-extroversive attitude and the hyperthymic type of character accentuation have been detected in most cases both in the men and the women. At the same time, elevated levels of neuroticism, excitability, emotional breadth and anxiety occurred more frequently in the women as compared to the men. A high risk of coronary-prone behavior was found in the half of the men and in two thirds of the women. A degree of adequacy of the mentioned psychoemotional pattern to the present-day life has been discussed in the paper.

This article is concerned with the early neonatal period in children delivered by women with thrombophilia. A prospective cohort study of 37 newborns of the women with thrombophilia has been conducted. It has been registered that the venous thrombosis and embolism were observed in pregnant women who did not receive anticoagulant drugs before homeostasis catastrophe. The obtained data have shown that preventive and therapeutic administration of antiaggregants and anticoagulants in the antenatal period produced favorable effect on the outcome of pregnancy and did not affect the fetus and the newborn.

Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common endocrine diseases. Environmental risks and the conditions of constant mental stress contribute to the emergence and development of the disease.

Herbal raw materials are an inexhaustible source of new drugs. Chemical compounds which were found by D. A. Toepfer in the bearbind underground organs - Calystegia sepium (Convolvulaceae) were named calystegines - polyhydroxy nortropane alkaloids. Calystegines are selective competitive inhibitors of glycosidase activities. Calystegines don’t have significant toxic effects, so calystegines can be regarded as promising for development of herbal medicines for prevention and treatment of hyperglycemic states.

BONE-MARROW HAEMOPOIESIS CHANGE AT EARLY STAGES

OF DEPLETED URANIUM INCORPORATION

First Moscow State Medical University named after I. M. Sechenov,

The article has considered an experiment with incorporation of depleted uranium (DU) mixed oxide solution to laboratory animals (rats) with cytological study of their marrow at early period after exposure. Changes of bone-marrow haemopoiesis of the experimental animals were indicative of significant tension of compensation processes in response to single DU exposure that showed DU radioactive and toxicological effects and insolvency of natural protective mechanisms of the organism. The results of the research have shown that changes of haemopoiesis were questionable. Leukoblast hemopoiesis suppression occurred in reduction of marrow myeloid part by the third month of the experiment, at the same time, there was registered growth of marrow erythroid lineage indicative of its more significant compensation abilities. By the experiment completion, the changes of the haemopoiesis parameters did not reach control points what indicated practicability of long-term observation of the animals after a single DU exposure and possible manifestation of its remote effects.

A collaborating group of Norwegian and Russian research institutions, with the Norwegian Institute for Urban and Regional Research as a lead partner, has in 2008-2011 implemented a study on HIV / AIDS governance in North-West Russia. The main focus has been on the extent to which, and how, HIV / AIDS prevention is perceived and treated as a public health issue, requiring a broad, multi-sectoral response. The project is actor-oriented and studies the perspectives and processes among, and in the intersections between, four categories of actors: authorities (federal, district and municipal), professional groups, risk groups, and general public. Through case studies in five municipalities (located in three federal districts) the project analyses how prevention strategies at the federal level are implemented and perceived at lower levels. The project combines quantitative and qualitative research methods. It is based on document analysis, qualitative case studies and surveys among the general population.
