Salary:£20,000 - £24,000 pa, depending on experience
Hours:37.5 productive hours a week

Summary of role
This post focuses on empowering local communities in their mission to call young people into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.The Youth Worker will report to the Diocesan Youth Ministry Co-ordinator (DYMC).
Detailed responsibilities
Diocesan Work:
Developing a range of tools and training to enable mission to young people in schools and parishes.
Working with older teenagers and young adults to promote deeper faith understanding and a missional attitude, including leading our World Youth Day pilgrimage to Madrid in 2011.
Actively keeping in touch with new research and best practice in youth outreach.
Exploring new and adventurous ways of connecting the Gospel with culture through a range of activities and resources (these could include sports, arts, new media, music, current affairs, etc)
Leading and facilitating evangelistic sessions and activities in secondary schools, including sessions, assemblies and mission activities.
Encouraging collaboration between different groups to undertake outreach in local areas (for example, between different parishes, between schools and parishes or between different Christian denominations.)
Using the full range of media to connect with young people and youth leaders, including the NYMO website, our Facebook group, online blogs and print media.
Contributing to NYMO, diocesan and other publications.
World Youth Day
With the support of the Diocesan Youth Worker for Training and Formation, co-ordinate the ‘Passionate Youth Discipleship’ programme and events in preparation for the involvement of young people from the Diocese of Northampton in World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid, Spain, including:
- Heading up the WYD pilgrimage alongside a team of volunteer and paid staff
- Arranging the experience in Madrid, including liaising with venues and contacts in the UK and Spain, and developing a programme of formation for the WYD fortnight.
- Responding to pilgrim enquiries, recruiting new pilgrims where appropriate and ensuring effective communications between their application and WYD
- Leading a series of pre-WYD formation weekends on a variety of themes, as well as one group fundraising event and one post-WYD weekend
Work with the CYMFed WYD leaders group, and other Dioceses attending WYD on national aspects of the pilgrimage
As part of the wider NYMO team:
For the twice-yearly Lumos weekends:
Being a member of the Lumos core team, attending planning meetings and being a visible point of contact and support for volunteer leaders.
In particular, heading up the Stream Leader Support role on behalf of the Core Team, involving:
- Recruiting, training and supporting the team of small group and stream leaders.
- Developing the programme for the weekend with the stream leaders
- Providing practical and logistical support before, during and after each event.
- Alongside other Core Team members, taking responsibility for any safeguarding issues which may arise over the course of an event.
General:
Actively engaging with youth culture to inform the work of the whole team.
Facilitating occasional events or sessions alongside the rest of the team in other youth office projects.
Manage own projects and activities to meet deadlines.
Maintain own timekeeping records.
Undertake other reasonable requests.
Person specification
Essential
Experienced in parish youth ministry
Experience of different forms of mission and evangelisation
Comfortable working within a Catholic ethos and environment
Experience of World Youth Day (as either participant or leader)
Able to work collaboratively and creatively with a variety of people
Excellentcommunication and organisation skills
Good IT skills, including use of the internet and email
At ease with both youth culture and the institution of the Church
Willing to work in an organisation where high levels of flexibility and new thinking will be required
Full UK Driving License
Desirable
Formal qualification in either theology or youth work/ministry
Design or other communication skills
Any contract will be subject to references and an enhanced CRB check.
