North Reading Youth Basketball
Mission Statement
Provide the youth of our community with the opportunity to learn the skills and strategy of the game of basketball, and to develop their sense of teamwork and good sportsmanship. We strive to instill a love of the game and to provide a fun, safe and enjoyable basketball experience.
Guiding Principles & Expected Behaviors
(For players, coaches, parents and spectators)
1.)Player development is the primary objective of North Reading Youth Basketball.
2.)Learning basic skills and proper basketball positioning is a key to player development.
3.)Team play and sharing of responsibilities are encouraged.
4.)We endeavor to create an environment where players learn by doing, by being creative and by taking chances. We discourage excessive play calling and structure.
5.)Parents are expected to support their children and their coaches. Positive reinforcement by parents and fans is encouraged. Criticism, taunting, verbal abuse of players, coaches or referees, or any expression of unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated and will result in ejection.
6.)Coaches are appointed to serve the needs of all players. Coaches who participate with the goal of advancing or favoring their child will be discouraged from volunteering and/or subject to dismissal from the program.
7.)Coaches have the authority to run their team according to the letter and spirit of the Coaching Guideline Statements, and the directives of their division and program directors. They have the full support of the NRYB Board of Directors to exercise their duties, including dealing with unruly and disruptive parents, players and fans.
8.)Good sportsmanship and appropriate behavior for players extends to the practice court and any related team activities. Unacceptable behavior includes physical confrontations such as, but not limited to, hitting, punching, kicking and shoving, profanity, taunting, deprecating language and tantrums. Coaches witnessing this type of behavior are required to immediately contact their Director or any Board Member. The Board will then decide what action it will take against the player, including suspension from team activities including practices and games up to and including expulsion from NRYB. Failure by a coach to notify the Director or any Board Member about this type of behavior can result in the coach being suspended from team activities including practices and games up to and including expulsion from NRYB.
