OFFICER ELECTIONS FOR 2016-17 SCHOOL YEAR

CALENDAR OF EVENTS:
Monday, April 4 -Petitions will be available in K-pod reception office.
-You need 75 student signatures and 5 faculty signatures
-Sign the sheet with Mrs. Pavlik/Mrs. Sinotte with the position you are seeking so that announcements can be made about the candidates for each office.
Friday, April 15 -Petitions are due in K-pod reception office by the end of the school day
Monday, April 18 -Mandatory meeting with candidates and parents with present officers, Mr. Berger, and Class/SGA Advisors in Audion at 7pm.
- Candidate pictures taken
-Candidate’s questionnaire (for Knight Crier) distributed at meeting
-Campaign officially begins after meeting!!
Tuesday, April 19 -All campaign signs/posters must be brought to K-pod reception office by 7:30 am for Mr. Berger’s approval.
-Candidate questionnaire completed and returned to
Mr. Berger in K-Pod Office by 2:30 pm
- Speeches must be submitted to respective advisors for approval
- Class of 2018 Speeches taped after school.
Wednesday, April 20 -Class of 2017 Speeches taped after school.
Thursday, April 21 - SGA Officer Speeches Taped after school
Tuesday, April 26 -Airing of 2017/2018 Speeches during 9th Period (NPTV)
Wednesday, April 27 - Airing of SGA Speeches
Week of May 2 - Election is open online and in cafeteria. Polls close at 1:30 Friday, May 6
RULES FOR ELECTION SIGNS:
1. Signs may ONLY be hung on cork strip areas found throughout the building on the walls.
They may NOT be placed on windows, lockers, wall papered walls, above lockers, or on
any woodwork. Nor may they be hung on the wall just above the lower stair flight in the
stairwells. You may only put one of your signs on each tack strip. Mr. Berger MUST approve
all signs before they can be posted. Signs without Mr. Berger’s initials will be taken down and may disqualify you from the election.
2. Signs must be tacked to the cork strip with a staple or a thumbtack. Signs can also be hung
from the bottom of other signs.
3. Signs WILL be no larger than 18” x 24” (poster board size). CANDIDATES MUST SUPPLY
THEIR OWN PAPER FOR SIGNS.
4. DO NOT write on or remove other candidates’ signs from the walls.
5. CANDIDATES SHOULD USE DISCRETION REGARDING PICTURES AND WORDS THAT
WOULD BE INAPPROPRIATE FOR THE HALLS OF NORTH PENN HIGH SCHOOL.
6. Signs MUST be taken down immediately following the election or run-offs. YOU are
responsible for your signs----win or lose.
7. Any violation of campaign or school rules could cause the removal of a candidates’ signs or
the removal of a candidate from the election.
MEET THE CANDIDATES:
The day of the election candidate speeches will be aired in 9th period. The presidential candidates will have 2 minutes in which to make a speech explaining their platforms. The other candidates will have one minute to speak. Every candidate MUST participate in this process. These speeches are “live to tape,” in other words, you only get one shot and will not get a “do-over,” so practice!
OFFICER PETITION:
Attached is an officer petition for the Class of 2017. In order to be considered as candidate, this completed form must be submitted on time. The requirements are:
1. Acquire 75 North Penn student signatures and 5 teacher signatures.
2. Have a Parent/Guardian signature on the petition.
3. Show a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.0 for the present school year.

THE ROLES OF EACH OFFICE:
PRESIDENT: The president shall preside over all executive and legislative (steering committee) meetings. He/She shall name the committees for the upcoming year. He/She shall appoint cabinet members in consultation with other officers and advisors and shall assume all other responsibilities deemed necessary by the Class of 2017 Steering Committee.
VICE PRESIDENT: The vice president shall aid in the naming of all committees and help the chairpersons with committees and committee problems as deemed necessary. He/She shall perform the duties of the president in a temporary or permanent absence of the president. He/She shall represent the Class of 2017 at all meeting of the InterClub Council (ICC) or designate another officer to take his/her place for temporary absence.
TREASURER: The treasurer shall be in charge of all funds for the Class of 2017. He/She shall make a report of these funds at all meetings of the executive and legislative branches and whenever otherwise necessary. He/She shall complete all monthly North Penn School District reconciliation of accounts and file all annual financial reports as required with the signature of one or both class advisors.
SECRETARY: The secretary shall handle all correspondence concerned with the Steering Committee. He/She shall keep accurate records and files of all Steering Committee business. These files will be open for inspection at any reasonable time. Records should include all motions and votes of the Steering Committee and accurate record of all financial decisions. He/She shall take attendance and minutes at all meetings of the executive and legislative branch.
