- Minutes of the previous meeting were agreed.
- Matters arising;
Ronnie agreed to send Lynn a copy of the pre-meeting minutes for the PPG records.
- The results of the patient survey were discussed. It was agreed that the practice had had a very difficult time over the last year. This was reflected in the increase in dissatisfaction with access within the practice. Members of the PPG expressed dissatisfaction with the waiting times for patients trying to get through for an appointment on a morning. This was shown in the survey and has been experienced prior to the introduction of the new triage system. It is hoped this new system will reduce the need for patients to call back on a daily basis to get an appointment and therefore reduce call times. It is hoped that educating patients via the triage system will also reduce demand slightly.Both Lynn and Jan explained to the PPG that access is a major problem across the whole of the country in every GP surgery and this is due to increased demand and expectations from patients.
- A draft action plan was discussed and modified according to input from the group and then agreed.
- Lynn handed out copies of CQC – A Guide to Working Together (for those members unable to print off themselves). Everyone agreed to look at this.
- Lynn explained about the need for PPG members to feed back “soft intelligence” to the practice where patients had experienced problems/unacceptable waiting times or evidence of any good practice.
- Lynn updated the PPG on changes within the practice over the last 4 months:
Dr Clark still not returned to work and we have no date for her return
Dr Young returned in December
Dr Naeem replaced Dr Holbrook and started December 2013
Jan Foster-Taylor – ANP - started end of November 2013
Dr Rose – Innes will be going on maternity leave on March 14th
Practice now has cover for HCA maternity leave which began Feb 2014 – 2 x part time staff
1 x trainees at the moment - Dr Deo started February and with the practice until August 2014
Weekend Surgeries – practice has been doing these since beginning of Nov (surgery was only given 2 weeks’ notice for when pilot would start) and this is to help ease pressure on A&E & 111 – open 8.30am to 1pm – booked appointments which are routine only as no nurse/bt/ecg facilities but also deal with non-emergency walk in’s and referrals from A&E & 111which they feel are appropriate for GP. These will end in mid-March as it is a pilot project.
- It was agreed the next meeting will be on Thursday 15th May 2014 and the following one to be Thursday 21st August. Both to be held at the surgery with the pre-meeting at 9.30am and the full meeting beginning at 10.30am.
