Classroom Policies: I ask that you follow all the rules in the student handbook. There is no food or beverages allowed in the laboratory (except water that is contained in a re-sealable bottle). I require that you listen to and respect all others in the classroom. There is to be no horseplay in the laboratory, if you act irresponsibly you will be immediately dismissed from that class. Classroom materials needed are a 3-ring binder, scientific calculator and a pen or pencil.
Extra Help: I strongly believe that taking the initiative to ask for and receive extra help is an important part of the education process. For this reason I am available before school, after school and during my free periods. Please make use of this time.
Homework: As much as you may not like to participate in the act of doing your homework, I ask and recommend that you complete the homework assigned. Homework will be assigned on a regular basis. The previous night’s homework will, on occasion, be checked at the beginning of the following class. If you are having trouble with the work, refer to the Extra Help portion of this paper.
Laboratories: Through out the school year you will complete class labs that will help you enforce and understand the physicsthat you are learning about. There will be both formal and informal lab write-ups that will be collectedand graded. Formal labs will follow the format given at the time of the lab. Writing laboratory reports is an important part of physics and the other sciences. For those of you who will be attending college and those of you who will be pursuing a degree in physics you will spend a good amount of time staring at your computer screen and waiting for the sentences to appear. The purposes of these labs are to make those processes easier for you in the future. Informal labs will take the appearance of the data sheets and a brief conclusion of the experiment.
Tests/Quizzes: Quizzes will be announced no later than 1 class period in advance. Tests will be announced no later than 1 week in advance. Since tests will be announced early, allowing enough time tostudy, being absent the class before a test does not excuse you from taking the exam that day.
Late Work:Late Homework will not be accepted, if it is not checked or handed in onthe day that it is due it will result in a zero for that assignment. Late labs will be accepted with the condition that the report will incur a POINT DEDUCTION. However this should not be a problem since ample time will be given for the writing of each lab report.
Missed/Make-Up Work: Life is unpredictable; as a result there will come a time in which you will not be able to attend class. You should take the initiative find me and ask for missed work. Missed homework will be due the following class meeting after which you receive it. For missed laboratories, arrangement should be made to make up the lab ahead of time since in most cases the labs will be time sensitive. The missed lab will need to be made up as soon as possible either after school or if a free period allows. Missed tests will need to be made up during the next class meeting or after school. ONE WEEK will be allowed to make up the missed exam, after which time the test will receive a zero.
Grading: The grading distribution will be as follows:
Tests and Quizzes – 40%
Laboratories – 25%
Classwork – 15%
Homework – 10%
Attendance and Participation – 10%
Allow me to offer some final pieces of information; physics can, at times, be a difficult subject to understand. This however is no reason to give up on the subject; you owe it to yourself to make a conscious and real effort on the subject matter. Do not allow the work to snowball, if you are experiencing trouble with an area ask your peers or seek me out for extra help. Once we make our way through some of “paper pusher” tasks you will understand and find physics to be an enjoyable science.

Dear Parents/Guardians:
I know you are inundated with papers and forms at the beginning of the school year. But it is important that we all understand the expectations and rules governing this course. I hope you get a chance to read all of your student’s hand-outs, but for now, just read this one, (haha). Then sign the following spaces to indicate that you understand and accept the logistics of this class. Thank you.
- My student’s name is ______
2. My name is ______
In my past years of teaching parents told me that they appreciated my email updates. I usually try to email the up-coming schedule, study ideas, and any other pertinent information the pool of physics parents. If you’d like to be included, please print your email address in the space below. If you haven’t received a conformation email from me within the first two weeks, then please send me an email so I can verify your address.
2. Yes, I want to receive email updates from Physics ______

Parents and guardians, thank you for your patience with all this paperwork. This course is very interesting and a lot of fun. I expect it to be safe and welcoming environment. And I plan to help your child become a stronger student. Please keep in touch.
Sincerely,
Larry Fabianski
