Essay 1 (200 words or less)

All Applicants. Avoidingclichés, give one important leadership lesson you’ve learned in the last two years. Keep the story personal, and make sure it highlights your definition of high quality leadership.

Essay 2 (400 words or less)

New Counselor Applicants. Why should you be considered for a job working with teenagers? Describe important lessons teenagers must learn if they are to transition successfully to college. How can your experiences and mentoring help them learn those key life lessons?

Returning Counselor Applicants. Address how effective you believe you will be helping the teenagers at Summer Honors. Address both of the following:

  • Give some examples of personal growth that you have witnessed our campers experiencing, including big life lessons as well as growth as leaders.
  • Why is Summer Honors meaningful to you personally? What aspects of working with fellow staff and campers appeals to you most? What do you hope to learn this summer, if hired?

Essay Instructions

Do not answer questions in bullet-point fashion. Craft a narrative that explains your exceptional qualities as a student leader. Please use your best essay-writing skills including introduction and conclusion, scholarly style, and excellent punctuation and grammar. This is an honors camp, and the quality of your essay is part of the evaluation we make when hiring you.
