8:30 AM
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Pick up cards as completed. Check quickly to see that they are complete.
2. Separate cards by color. Bring them to the correct scorers promptly. Help sort cards numerically.
1. Register teams from 8:00 – 8:50 AM making sure names are legible and that each contestant has the right kind and number of cards, of the color, properly numbered.
2. Return extra cards to supply boxes.
1. Upon completion of registration, take forms to tabulations area and begin entering chapters and names into the computers.
1. Be on hand at 8:30 AM and, before consulting the keys, go over each class and sample carefully, filling out the cards. Next, compare your placing with the official key. In conference with G.Huettl/Boehm/Vannett, settle all problems before the contest starts.
2. T. Boehm will organize and direct the work of the committee arbitrating any problems which may arise. He will work with all members of the committee prior to the start of the contest scoring making sure that the keys are identical. Of prime importance is consistency. Every group must be scored in accordance with the same rules. Please use red pencils for checking and blue for rechecking respectively.
NOTE: All scorers report at 9:15 am and work with the supervisors in scoring the samples that they are to evaluate. Be ready for final instructions from Vannett by 9:30am. Point values will be:
a. Selection of Seed
Placings 40
Reasons 60
100 x 3 = 300
b. Identification 150 x 2 = 300
c. Market Factors 100 x 2 = 200
d. Market Description 100 x 1 = 100
e. Equipment/Machinery 100 x 1 = 100
f. Disorders 0
TOTAL 1,000
It would be difficult to over-emphasize the importance of consistency. Two cards, completed exactly the same way, must be scored exactly the same way or someone will have valid grounds for objections, Normally, this event has very close competition. A five-point error could drop a contestant from first to fourth or fifth. BE CAREFUL!
