Award Nominations

It’s time to recognize our Public Health family by nominating someone for a 2017 NCPHA Award!

We all know someone who has achieved great accomplishments, gone beyond the call of duty, made outstanding contributions to public health and/or acted as a motivated champion for public health clients. The NCPHA Awards Committee is accepting nominations for the following:

Reynolds Award

·  The Reynolds Medal of Achievement was established in 1948 in honor of Dr. Reynolds and was originally awarded to the person that presented the most outstanding paper at the Annual Meeting. In 1950, the criteria were changed to include all persons working in the field of Public Health and no longer required a paper or speech. In 1952, the Award was limited to an individual member of the Association who had made the greatest contribution to public health in North Carolina during the past year.

Norton Group Award

·  The Norton Group Award was established in 1952 in honor of Dr. John William Norton, who served as State Health Director from 1948 thru 1965. Throughout Dr. Norton’s career, he continued to foster community support of public health efforts. The Norton Group Award is presented to a local health group for outstanding contributions or activities during the past year.

Distinguished Service Award

·  This award was established in 1953 to recognize individuals in other organizations or professions who have made significant contributions to public health in North Carolina.

Rankin Award

·  In 1954, the North Carolina Public Health Association established this forth award naming it in honor of Dr. Watson Smith Rankin. The first award was presented in 1955 and has been given annually to the person who, over a period of several years, has made an outstanding contribution to public health in North Carolina.

Citation of Merit

·  The Association established its fifth award in 1959. The award is presented at the Annual Conference to recognize outstanding accomplishments to an individual member of the North Carolina Public Health Association.

Partners in Public Health Distinguished Group Award

·  This award was established in September, 1998, to recognize other organizations or professions who have contributed to public health efforts in North Carolina. The recipient may be a private company, civic organization, or professional association.
