3.  Title and Description of Proposed Standard or Enhancement:

Title:

Allow checkboxes and radio buttons to indicate “Yes” and/or “No” responses to Data Elements on Transportation Service Provider’s (TSP’s) Electronic Bulletin Boards (EBBs).

Description:

It is common practice to indicate a “Yes” response to a question by placing a check mark or an “X” inside of a provided box; however, the NAESB Standards do not specifically allow TSPs to use such checkbox responses in their EBBs. In addition, although we believe that the use of radio buttons for “Yes” and “No” responses do adhere to the current Standards due to the inclusion of the “Yes” and “No” terminology, the Standards also do not explicitly allow for their usage. A standard to optionally allow the usage of checkboxes and radio buttons to provide “Yes” and “No” responses would be beneficial to all users entering such data by providing a faster and more efficient method of response.

4. Use of Proposed Standard or Enhancement (include how the standard will be used, documentation on the description of the proposed standard, any existing documentation of the proposed standard, and required communication protocols):

This proposal would only affect a TSP’s EBB system. A TSP would be allowed to use a checkbox or radio button for “Yes”/”No” responses in place of a drop-down where users select “Yes” or “No”. The user would be allowed to provide a “Yes” response to a data element by placing a check, or an “X”, into a predesignated box on the screen. Alternatively, a user would be able to select “Yes” or “No” by selecting the appropriate radio button for a data element requiring a “Yes” or “No” answer.

5. Description of Any Tangible or Intangible Benefits to the Use of the Proposed Standard or Enhancement:

Usage of this proposed standard would allow customers to quickly select responses to “Yes”/”No” data elements, and allows for a cleaner implementation of such data elements on a TSP’s EBB.

6. Estimate of Incremental Specific Costs to Implement Proposed Standard or Enhancement:

Usage of Checkboxes and/or Radio Buttons on a TSP’s EBB is optional, and would not result in incremental costs to any TSP not wishing to implement such usage.

7. Description of Any Specific Legal or Other Considerations:

None

8. If This Proposed Standard or Enhancement Is Not Tested Yet, List Trading Partners Willing to Test Standard or Enhancement (Corporations and contacts):

N/A

9. If This Proposed Standard or Enhancement Is In Use, Who are the Trading Partners :

The proposed standard is not in current use on TSP EBBs. All users of an EBB where the TSP has optionally implemented such modification would benefit from the proposed standard through ease of use.
