Nora Novika 5th International Chamber Music Competition Rules /

The Marupe Music & Art School in association with Supporting Society of Riga District Youth Orchestra and Marupe municipality holds the 5th international competition of chamber music in 3 categories:

  1. Piano ensembles
  2. Homogeneous instrumental ensembles
  3. Instrumental chamber ensembles

The piano ensembles should play 2 (or more) compositions of different style and from different time periods. It is not required to perform the program by heart.

The homogeneous instrumental ensembles and instrumental chamber ensembles should play 2 (or more) miniatures of different style and from different time periods (with equivalent instrumental parts). It is not required to perform the program by heart.

I Piano ensembles

/ Group A – up to 5 min. / Group B – up to 6 min / Group C – up to 8 min.
II Homogeneous instrumental ensembles / Group D – up to 5 min. / Group E – up to 8 min / Group F – up to 8 min.
III Instrumental chamber ensembles / Group G – up to 5 min. / Group H – up to 8 min. / Group I – up to 8 min.

Maximum 9 ensembles from each school may take part in the competition. Ensemble's age group is defined by the age of the oldest participant. Participants must have with them their identification documents, to be showed on request.

The international jury is appointed by the director of the Marupe Music & Art School. The decision of the jury is indisputable. Winners of the competition receive diplomas, medals, presents, gifts from supporters and take part in a Concert of laureates. Several special prizes will be awarded, for example, For the best performance of composition by the Latvian composer.

Within the competition a Seminar for the pedagogues will be organized. Those pedagogues whose pupils take part in the competition will receive a Certificate after the Seminar. Content of the Seminar will be based on suggestions of pedagogues.

Participants of the competition, during seminar for pedagogues, can take part in a Creative workshop in a guidance of competent pedagogues of art.

To participate in the Competition, contestants must fill one REGISTRATION FORM for each ensemble (all 1. – 8. points obligatory). The registration forms for the participants should be sent till the 1. March 2010 (including) in an electronic form to an e-mail address of the Marupe Music & Art School or by fax to +371 67933460. Bill, that will be sent, must be paid till 15. March 2010, when contestants are approved for the competition. Participations fee is not refundable in case of non-appearance.

Timetables of rehearsals and competition will be sent to an e-mail address indicated in the registration form till 31. March 2010. The participation fee for each ensemble is Ls 15, for a seminar participant Ls 5.

The travel and accommodation expenses are to be covered by the participants.
