WAGES AND BENEFIT STUDY INTERN The Santa Cruz Community Credit Union (Apply in Fall)

Intern will research child care workforce-development reports (for example Marcia Whitebook’s recent study Intern will design survey on child care staff wages and benefits in Santa CruzCounty licensed child care centers. Intern will work with Community Development Manager, Child Care Business Alliance, and community agencies. Intern will conduct survey of up to 100 childcare centers in Santa CruzCounty. MEMBERSHIP ASSOCIATION INTERN The Santa Cruz Community Credit Union (Apply in Fall)

Intern will research best practices in successful associations (for example ASAE and the Center for Association Leadership , and CA. Assn. of Nonprofits). Intern will work with Community Development Manager, Child Care Business Alliance, and small business consultants. Intern will evaluate new local association. Based on synthesis of this research and evaluation, Intern will make recommendations to sustain support for association promote membership among small child care businesses.

FINANCIAL EDUCATION INTERN The Santa Cruz Community Credit Union(Apply in Fall)

Intern will research existing wed-based interactive financial education (for example ). Intern will work with Financial Education staff and Community Development Director. Intern will study/observe the Santa Cruz Community Ventures financial education program (Spanish and English conducted at Family Resource Centers). Intern will review demographic and anecdotal information on the people we serve. Intern will learn the ways our economic justice mission works in the community and with members. The Ecological Landscaping Association (ELA) advocates for environmentally responsible stewardship of land and natural resources in the landscape and horticultural practices of professionals and the public. Through education, collaboration and networking, ELA promotes the design, installation and maintenance of landscapes that are guided by a knowledge of and respect for natural ecosystems.

Responsibilities: As a part time intern, your role will focus on administrative, development and media interaction important to ELA. Administrativeroles will consist of office organization and filing, database entry, web contact with regional and national offices, internet mailing, maintaining records and research materials, responding to material requests, running errands and other general office duties. Developmentactivities include: proposal writing and editing, donor prospect research and tracking, development campaign planning, budget development, research online fundraising opportunities, developing outreach materials, research of publications, media clippings and other informational materials relative to ELA's work. While we would like this intern to help us with the critical day-to-day tasks that keep the organization running, we are committed to offering interesting work and substantial learning opportunities.

POLICY INTERNSHIP

OFRF has a part-time internship available for the 2001 winter and spring quarters. The position will focus on analysis of public policies related to organic farming research and practices, including a range of tasks outlined below. Interns will receive academic credit in exchange for 8-16 hours of work per week. The policy intern will work closely with OFRF's Policy Program Director to address one or two issues of regional or national significance, possibly in the areas of organic production and marketing standards, agricultural biotechnology, public resources for organic systems research and education, and development of a national organic systems research agenda. The intern will also provide support for the Scientific Congress on Organic Agricultural Research (SCOAR), a nationwide collaboration of producers, scientists, and others initiated and facilitated by OFRF to plan and promote research and information exchange to understand and improve organic agricultural systems. OFRF officially launched SCOAR this year and is planning regional and national meetings for 2001 and 2002, the first of which will take place in Monterey on January 23-24, 2001.

POLICY PROGRAM ACTIVITIES include: review of publications, legislation and other informational materials for relevance to OFRF's work; analysis of existing and proposed policies for impact on organic farmers and their information needs; maintaining contact with SCOAR participants and working with staff on SCOAR outreach and events.
