Nonprofit Fair Volunteer Opportunities

1. A Place for Hope: Recovery and Wellness Center, Inc.

  • Facilitate Cooking classes, craft classes and/or other structure activities
  • Data entry to assist in transitioning to a paperless environment

2. Altrusa International of Fargo Inc.

  • We have several fundraisers and service projects coming up including an All American Girl Tea Party, Share-a-Story and Reading at Nokomis. We need help in planning these events and then volunteering the day of the events.

3. Alzheimer’s Association

  • Event volunteers help in the planning and day-of event execution;
  • Advocacy volunteers help organize letter-writing campaigns, speak to legislators and phone interested individuals;
  • Young Champions increase awareness of Alzheimer’s and related dementias, advocating for change at state and federal levels, and raising funds to provide hope for people affected

4. American Red Cross

  • We are always in need of volunteers for our response team, Fire Prevention, preparation, special events, Service to the Armed Forces.

5. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Village Family Service Center

  • School-Based volunteers: Meet 1 hour per week during the school year with a child at either Madison or Jefferson Elementary.
  • Community-Based volunteers: Meet with their "Little" at least every other week for 2-4 hours. They have the flexibility to go out in the community to do a variety of activities together.
  • Both opportunities require a one year commitment.

6. Birthright of Fargo-Moorhead

  • Partnering with one of our volunteers in the office (we are open during the day on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) by answering the phone, visiting with clients, sorting baby clothes, etc.
  • Assisting with our website and Giving Hearts Day promotions.
  • Delivering baby layettes to local hospitals.
  • Distributing information on campuses.
  • Assisting with projects such as baby clothes drives.

7. CassClayAlive! (Dakota Medical Foundation)

9. Child Evangelism Fellowship of Fargo/Moorhead

  • Good News Clubs - meets once a week after school in Fargo-Moorhead area schools. Good News Clubs features action packed songs, fun games, life changing memory verses, dynamic Bible stories, and much more. Students are needed to teach and assist with club.
  • Christian Youth in Action (CYIA) - A summer program where college/high school students share the message of the gospel by either being a counselor at Camp Good News (day camp) or a Bible teacher at a 5 Day Club (traveling VBS).

10. Churches United for the Homeless

  • Individuals:
  • Sort through food, clothing, and household donations.
  • Help prepare and serve lunch time meals to community members and residents.
  • Help residents pick up furniture and move into their new homes.
  • Decorate the shelter for holidays and seasons.
  • Assist in filing documents and data entry.
  • Assist with residents with Clothing Store appointments.
  • Groups:
  • Lunch Serving Groups– help prepare and serve lunch.
  • Participate in weekly adult and family activities.
  • Clean and tidy the facility and grounds.
  • Host a “drive” for items needed by residents or at the shelter.
  • Sort and organize donations.

11. Dress for Success Red River Valley

  • Help with sorting clothing and boutique design as a merchandiser
  • Help decorate the boutique as a display artist
  • Work directly with women as personal shoppers or during special events

12. Emergency Food Pantry

  • Volunteers are welcome Monday – Friday from 8am – noon and 1pm - 4pm.
  • Volunteer jobs include assisting the front desk with welcoming clients or answering phones, filling food baskets in the warehouse, or doing various other jobs.

  • Help with Trunk or Treat and Santa Meet and Greets! As a non-profit, it would also be of great assistance for students to adopt us to assist with fundraising.
  • Help with yoga classes for parents and children and other family events

17. Fargo Cass Public Health

  • Medical Reserve Corp provides volunteers, both medical and non-medical, to help with public health emergencies such as point of dispensing units during pandemics. They are also called upon to help with first responder training exercises.
  • Walk This Way and Streets Alive offers community health students a chance to help with walking and outdoor activity events to encourage the public to get out and exercise.

  • Variety of special events throughout the year, adopt a park and a variety of other opportunities.

  • We have volunteers that help at our many fundraising events throughout the year.
  • Help with our baby boutique by helping clients shop, or organizing and folding baby items.
  • Office work and cleaning projects are available throughout different times of the year as well.

  • We have Troop Leader, Troop Co-leader, Troop Support and various Program/Event Volunteer openings to serve on a regular to occasional basis

22. Great Plains Food Bank

  • The Great Plains Food Bank regularly needs volunteers to help process about twenty percent of the food we distribute to our 275+ partner agencies each year.
  • Our volunteers sort, label, and repack donated and bulk foods and assemble boxes and bags for special programs. Our goal is to provide the best possible volunteer experience for each of our volunteers.

  • We would really like to partner with students to do research and help with marketing ideas and implementation!

24. HERO, Healthcare Equipment Recycling Organization

  • HERO Volunteers can help with organizing medical donations, helping the retail store, writing thank you cards to donors, and helping HERO be as efficient and effective as possible.

25. Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County

  • We have weekly 4-hour shifts at admissions, as a tour guide, and in the gift shop.
  • We also need extra help for the festivals in June, Sept., and Nov.
  • We also offer unpaid internships in events coordinating, exhibit work, archival research, and artifact collections as well as a general museum assist experience.

29. March of Dimes Foundation

  • We have two internship opportunities every semester and summer for student. They are in our programming department and communications.
  • We also have volunteer opportunities at our Bowls for Babies event, Signature Chef's Auctions, and March for Babies.
  • Student could also create a fundraising team for our March for Babies event.

30. Minnesota Reading Corps

  • Volunteer opportunities to read with small groups of students or one on one in grades 1 - 3. One hour/one day a week minimum commitment for at least 3 months.

31. ND Reading Corps

  • ND Reading Corps places literacy tutors in elementary schools and PreK sites in Fargo and West Fargo during the academic school year.
  • Individuals commit to serving with ND Reading Corps throughout the year on a 15 or 20 hour per week basis. ND Reading Corps is a national service program funded through AmeriCorps.

35. Project Linus: Eastern ND/Fargo Chapter

  • Project Linus will come and assist campus organizations to make blankets. Usually the event will take 1-2 hours. Those blankets are identified as to which organization makes them.

36. Rape & Abuse Crisis Center

  • Assist victims of abuse by providing support and referrals. Training is provided.
  • Childcare: We are seeking caring individuals who are willing to offer fun and activities for a few hours at a time to a child or groups of children of varying ages.
  • Front Desk/Clerical: Provide clerical support; such as filing, typing, and answering phones.
  • Fundraising: Assist with planning, promotion and coordination of events.
  • Professional Skills: Public Relations, Public Speaking, Videographer, etc.
  • Men’s Action Network: A network of men promoting healthy and accountable relationships through communication, awareness, and mutual respect.
  • Special Projects: Pinwheels for Peace, Partners in Peace Bracelet creation, organizing donations, general handy work.

37. Rebuilding Together

  • Volunteers can help with construction projects or administrative projects
  • We also have volunteer internships in marketing, communications, and business

38. reGROUP

  • reGROUP is Peer advocates for addiction recovery-we provide recovery coaches, telephone support, community education, presentations, community events and fundraisers, and fun sober activities.
  • Community volunteers can help in all the items listed above, students that are in recovery themselves can take the training to be a recovery coach or do telephone support for others that are wanting or are in recovery.

39. Red River Youth for Christ

  • Red River Alternative Learning Center Volunteer: Serve as a spiritual leader and role model to at-risk teens alongside RRYFC staff on Fridays.
  • Red River Alternative Learning Center Math Tutor: Serve as a role model and math tutor to at-risk teens alongside RRYFC staff on Fridays.
  • Woodrow Wilson HS Volunteer: Prepare and serve meals to teens during school lunch periods on Wednesdays.
  • English Tutor (Female volunteers only): Working with and teaching young women who need extra help understanding the English language.
  • Peach Fundraiser Volunteer (Mid-July through August): Assist RRYFC staff with moving and selling boxes of fruit at our summer peach stand.
  • Comedy Cafe Volunteer (October): Assist with event setup, serving desserts and coffee, ushering, and event teardown.
  • Hype Team: Act as RRYFC cheerleaders on social media to promote events, volunteer opportunities, and fundraisers.

  • They can volunteer for one day events or, if they are interested in something more, we need coaches and partners (they play on the team with the athletes).

  • We have several special events through the year that require the assistance of volunteers and we have two thrift stores rely on volunteers to help maintain the sales floor

47. The GOD'S CHILD Project

  • The GOD’S CHILD Project organizes ServiceTeams for church, school, and community groups
  • Individual Volunteer opportunities in Antigua, Guatemala.
  • ServiceTeams build homes and serve in our Casa Jackson Malnutrition Center, The Dreamer Center School, The Scheel International Technical Training Center, Mothers Club, and the Albergue Santa Madre homeless shelter
  • Individual Volunteers can create their unique service opportunity based on their skills and interests. These opportunities are organized year-round.

48. The Salvation Army

  • We need volunteers in various areas including our hot meal program, emergency disaster services, marketing, social media, social services, etc.
  • For our hot meal program, we need volunteers to help prepare the noon meals, serve meals, and clean our dining room after meals.

49. Unseen Ministries

  • Our volunteers do a large variety of tasks here at Unseen. From simple things such as writing thank yous, calling donors, stuffing envelopes, to bigger tasks like representing Unseen at booths, or leading fundraisers.
  • In February we participate in Giving Hearts Day, which is a huge fundraising opportunity for us. We will be in need of a lot of volunteer help around the time of that event.

50. Valley Senior Services

  • The Meals on Wheels program in the Fargo and West Fargo
  • We are actively seeking volunteers to assist with the delivery of meals to homebound seniors.
  • Meals are delivered Monday thru Friday for the noon meal.

  • Volunteering opportunities range from single day events to long term volunteering in our childcare facilities.
  • Single day events that we have participated in before include: Run or Dye, Fargo Marathon, Burn the Bird Race, StreetsAlive!, and much more.
