Please set out below a short bio, a brief summary of your reasons for wishing to be elected to the National Committee and describe what you believe you are able to contribute by reference to the relevant position description:
I have been involved with ALHR since 2014, first as an SA Co-Convener and then as a Chair of the Disability Rights Subcommittee which I established with Nathan Kennedy, then President. These roles have exposed me to the evolution of ALHR’s governance arrangements and have placed me in an expert position to be able to reflect on what works for ALHR’s governance and also what could be improved. My corporate knowledge and experience of ALHR will ensure that I am able to deliver the expectations of the role including providing timely comment for collaborative approvals and decision-making and engaging new and existing members. I also have developed key relationships with stakeholders in the disability rights space who now routinely come to work collaboratively with ALHR on significant projects including Senate Committee Inquiries, lobbying State and Federal Ministers on specific issues and to strategise on law reform projects.
In addition to my knowledge on ALHR governance, I have ongoing expertise in disability rights law evidence through my legal practice, published research and recent award of Australian Young Lawyer of the Year and South Australian Young Lawyer of the Year.
