The Eastern Minority Supplier Development Council (EMSDC) will again host the “Stellar Awards”Luncheon, honoring the achievements of corporations, minority business enterprises (MBEs), and resource partners throughout the Council’s footprint—Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware. This year’s Awards Luncheon will take place on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM, at the Fairmont Hotel in Pittsburgh, PA.

Nominations are now open. See the attached list of award categories and criteria.

Nominations are a great way to acknowledge deserving companies or individuals.Self-nominations will also be accepted. Upon receipt of your nominations, a package will be sent to the nominee for additional information. Please submit your nominations as soon as possible to give your nominee enough time to collect and submit the required information to be used by the Selection Committee in determining the winners. The deadline for nominations is March 8, 2017. We will only accept nominations from EMSDC Corporate Members, Certified MBEs, and MBE subscribers.

Please note that“Corporation of the Year” and “Supplier of the Year” categories are not listed. You will have an opportunity to compete for these awards later in the year and be recognized at the Council’s annual “Choice Awards” Gala in Philadelphia on December 1.

MBE Awards

Partnership Award

This award recognizes and honors a certified minority business enterprise that demonstrates sound business management, sources with other MBEs, and seeks out opportunities to partner, collaborate, and form strategic alliances with other firms to enter larger markets and gain a competitive edge.

Award Criteria: The award is given to a certified MBE with a history of partnering with other MBEs to grow capacity, increasing their annual spend with MBEs, and sharing best practices with other minority firms.

Forerunner Award

This award recognizes and honors a certified minority business enterprise that demonstrates outstanding business performance, innovation, and a resilience in overcoming obstacles to success.

Award Criteria: The award is given to a certified MBE with a history of exemplary performance in the areas of quality of products/services, delivery, competitiveness, and servicing. The company also delivers innovative solutions, cost-saving ideas or unique services, and has overcome adversities.

Fastest Growing Company Award

This award recognizes and honors a certified minority business enterprise that demonstrates consistent growth in revenue and employees hired in a three-year period.

Award Criteria: The award is given to a certified MBE with a history of growth in terms of revenue and number of employees hired, and a proven track-record of sharing his/her entrepreneurial skills and creativity to help improve the quality of life, and overcome obstacles, in his/her community.

Resource Partner Awards

Individual

This award recognizes and honors an individual dedicated to the growth and development of MBEs and serves as a resource for the EMSDC MBE community.

Award Criteria: This individual has provided time or resources to help promote EMSDC and assisted in the growth and development of MBEs.

Corporate Awards

Leadership Cornerstone Award

This award recognizes and honors a corporation that is leading the way in support and/or development of MBEs that help to increase their capacity within the supply chain and enhance MBE competitiveness in the marketplace.

Award Criteria: This award is given to a member corporation for their efforts in identifying and developing MBEs through educational/technical programs, mentorships, and financial assistance.

Forerunner Award

This award recognizes and honors a corporation which demonstrates exemplary commitment in including MBEs in procurement activity.

Award Criteria: This award is given to a member corporation (or representative) for expenditures with certified minority business enterprises, as well as steps taken to be inclusive in this process.

Best Practice Award

This award recognizes and honors a corporation with an established Supplier Diversity Program that disrupts traditional processes to create innovation in the supply chain, drive program improvements, and develop best practices for MBE engagement.

Award Criteria: This award is given to a member corporation (or individual) for implementing a trendsetting supplier diversity strategy that results in increased numbers/percentages of MBEs in the supply chain, and demonstrates a willingness to help others grow and expand their programs.

Alexander Nichols Lifetime Achievement Award

This award recognizes and honors an individual whose overall involvement with the EMSDC goes above and beyond membership or certification status, but also whose body of work exemplifies a passion for the advancement of minority businesses.

Award Criteria: This individual has been recognized for the longstanding dedication to the advancement of minority business enterprises through promoting certification of MBEs, participation in organizations or committees that help develop MBEs, and number of years advocating for MBEs.
