9 – 12 May 2010, Gdańsk – Sobieszewo, Poland

SCOPE OF THE CONFERENCE

The international conferences in the series Environmental Degradation of Engineering Materials (EDEM) belong to important European and World conferences in this field. Each time they provide excellent opportunity for materials scientists and corrosion engineers throughout the globe to meet and exchange knowledge on various aspects related to the environmental degradation of structural and functional engineering materials. The latest research findings are presented, high-level lectures are given, internationally acclaimed scientists present breakthroughs in this field, ideas are exchanged, and new joint research projects are initiated. Besides the official scientific side of the conference, the social events give opportunities to relax, have fun and joy.

FOCAL THEMES

Performance, condition monitoring and degradation of materials in systems for energy generation and conversion.

Nuclear waste disposal.

CONFERENCE TOPICS

Experimental and modelling of environmental-assisted cracking: hydrogen degradation, stress corrosion cracking, corrosion fatigue, etc.

Electrochemical effects: passivity breakdown, pitting, hydrogen evolution.

Research techniques and monitoring of environmental degradation.

Failure of metallic, ceramic, polymer and composite materials.

Failures in the chemical, nuclear, oil and gas industries, air and surface transport.

Failure of functional materials: biomaterials, electronic materials, etc.

INVITED SPEAKERS

Noam Eliaz, Israel - Application of bio-ferrography in the study of joint degradation

Jean-Marc Olive, France - Simulation of the effect of heterogeneous stress field and microstructure on hydrogen diffusion

Neal Steven Berke, U.S.A. - Mitigating the environmental degradation of reinforced concrete: A holistic and sustainable approach

Hryhoriy Nykyforchyn, Ukraina - Environmentally assisted in-bulk engineering material degradation

Alec Groysman, Israel - Corrosion monitoring

Patrik Schmuki, Germany - TiO2 nanotube layers: Self-organized formation and applications

Alan Turnbull, United Kingdom - The transition from pit to stress corrosion crack

Adam Hernas, Poland - Degradation of creep-strength steels during long-term service

PRESENTATION AND DISSEMINATION OF THE PAPERS

All accepted contributions will be shown as plenary lectures, keynote lectures, oral or poster presentations based upon the selection of the Scientific Committee. They will be included in Conference Proceedings as e-files given to the participants at the conference desk.

The peer-reviewed papers will be published in one or two post-conference books or articles in post-conference issues of Advances in Materials Science, an international scientific quarterly.

LOCATION

The Gdansk University of Technology is the venue of EDEM 2010 Conference. The Conference will be held in hotel “ORLE” on Gdansk-SobieszewoIsland, 15 km from the centre of Gdańsk, near the E-7 route.
