Once the forecast is for approximately 7-14 days into the future, current weather maps provide little information for meteorologists to develop forecasts. This is because of the uncertainty in the ocean and atmosphere system. The use of historical weather data for a particular day is the best way to create long-range weather forecasts. Another example would be getting a newly developed vaccine for a disease. There is some risk associated with all vaccines and there are obvious risks associated with getting sick with the disease.
