NO. R-341. House concurrent resolution congratulating the 2004 Bellows Free Academy (BFA)-St. Albans Comets Division I Metro championship girls’ hockey team.

(H.C.R. 221)

Offered by: Representatives Keenan of St. Albans City, Allard of St.Albans Town, Howrigan of Fairfield, Parent of St. Albans City and Trombley of Grand Isle.

Whereas, when a new BFA-St. Albans girls’ Division I Metro ice hockey program was established four seasons ago, the ninth graders on the initial team envisioned capturing four successive divisional championship titles, and

Whereas, at the start of the 2003-2004 season, this objective was threequarters complete as the senior members of the Comets’ girls ice hockey squad sought to finish their four-year sweep, and

Whereas, the top-seeded Comets approached the season’s climatic game against the secondseeded Middlebury Union High School Tigers with both excitement and confidence, and

Whereas, none of the team’s players or coaches could have foreseen that Vermont girls ice hockey history would be made during this contest, and

Whereas, despite the Tigers scoring the opening point at the 6:08 mark of the first period, the Comets remained optimistic, and

Whereas, although both teams had many shots on goal and power play opportunities, their nearly evenlymatched defensive capabilities prevented any further scoring until Comet Emmy Handy, with an assist from Ashley Whitehouse, flung the puck into the net in the third period, and

Whereas, the score remained tied through the end of both regulation play and the first eightminute overtime period, and

Whereas, in the midst of a second overtime period, Angela Palmer slammed the puck into the opponent goalie’s net and brought BFA-St. Albans its fourth consecutive Division I Metro title and thus concluding the longest game ever played in the history of Vermont high school girl’s ice hockey and

Whereas, Comet players Meagan Fitzgerald, Jenna Bushey, Jenna Stanley, Caitlin Malboeuf, Sara Choiniere, Renee Boudreau, Emmy Handy, Kiley Manahan, Amanda Gage, Angela Palmer, Meghan Heald, Melissa Bocash, Emily Warden, Erica Robertson, Erika Frazier, Amanda Choiniere, Ashley Whitehouse, Betsy Viens, Christi Corrigan, Meghan Jaird, Celey Schumer, and Sarah Manahan, and team manager Hillary Mercier can all be proud of their team’s wonderful accomplishments on the ice, and

Whereas, Head Coach Luke Cioffi and assistant coaches Jeff Rouleau and Jeff Moulton provided critical support, now therefore be it
