Upcoming Services and Notices:

Today’s Charities – Transport: Mission to Seafarers/Schiphol Airport Ministry No matter what problem a seafarer is facing, be it injury, abandonment, non-payment of wages or personal difficulties, they know they can turn to the local Mission for help, advice and support. The Mission offers an opportunity for crews to get into touch with their overseas relatives and friends by telephone or via the Internet. There is a chapel and the pastor/clergyman is present when spiritual guidance is needed.

The mission for OCAAM is for all employees, visitors and travellers at Schiphol Airport, to experience the presence of pastoral care and help through the involvement of the Old Catholic and Anglican Churches; the aim is for there to be a place for reflection, where everyone who wishes can pray, meditate and get help.

The Illumination of our Souls

When the mind is completely freed from the passions, it journeys straight ahead to the contemplation of created things and makes its way to the knowledge of the Holy Trinity.

All the virtues assist the mind in the pursuit of divine love, but above all does pure prayer. By it the mind is given wings to go ahead to God…

Almsgiving heals the irascible part of the soul; fasting extinguishes the concupiscible part (appetites); and prayer purifies the mind and prepares it for the contemplation of reality. For the powers of the soul the Lord has granted us the commandments as well.

Opening Hymn: 417 Father in whom we live

Our worship continues on page 1 of the liturgy booklets.

The Collect:

Let your merciful ears, O Lord, be open to the prayers of your humble servants; and, that they may obtain their petitions make them to ask such things as shall please you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Old Testament Lesson: Jeremiah 7:9-15

Psalm 17:1-8

1HEAR the right O Lord, consider ’ my com’plaint : and hearken unto my prayer that goeth not ’ out of ’ feign-ed’ lips.

2 Let my sentence come forth ’ from thy ’ presence : and let thine eyes look up’on the ’ thing that is ’ equal.

3 Thou hast proved and visited mine heart in the night-season, thou hast tried me and shalt find no ’ wickedness ’ in me : for I am utterly purposed that my ’ mouth shall ’ not of’fend.

4 Because of men's works that are done against the ’ words of thy ’ lips : I have kept me from the ’ ways of ’ the de’stroyer.

5 O hold thou up my ’ goings ’ in thy ’ paths : ’ that my ’ footsteps ’ slip not.

6 I have called upon thee O God for ’ thou shalt ’ hear me : incline thine ear to me and ’ hearken ’ unto my ’ words.

7 Shew thy marvellous loving-kindness, thou that art the Saviour of them which put their ’ trust in ’ thee : from such as re’sist thy ’ right ’ hand.

8 Keep me as the ’ apple of an ’ eye : hide me under the ’ shadow ’ of thy ’ wings,

Glory be to the Father ’ and to • the ’ Son : and ’ to the ’ Holy ’ Ghost;

As it was in the beginning is ’ now and • ever ’ shall be : world without ’ end. A ’ — ’ men.

New Testament Lesson: I Corinthians 12:1-11

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.

This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Gradual Hymn: 562 Put thou thy trust in God

Gospel Acclamation:

Alleluia(x4)

We do not live by ’ bread a- ’ lone,
but by every word that comes ’ from the • mouth of ’ God.

Alleluia (x4)

The Gospel: St Luke 19:41-47a

Gospel is announced, we respond: Glory to you, O Lord

When Jesus drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade round you and surround you and hem you in on every side and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold, saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer’, but you have made it a den of robbers.”

And he was teaching daily in the temple.

After the Gospel is read we say: Praise to you, O Christ
